The Flight Before Christmas: Review and Giveaway
If you’ve just arrived here from reading my post on Christmas Traditions, then welcome! One of my favorite Christmas traditions with my family is to watch Christmas movies together to get us in the Holiday spirit! One of my new favorites is The Flight Before Christmas — a brand new CGI Animated film arriving on the scene for this Holiday Season! The characters are adorable and irresistible! From the press release:
When Niko sneaks out beyond the safety of Home Valley to practice his flying, he unwittingly endangers the herd as the notoriously mean Black Wolf fol
lows him home. Before it’s too late, Niko must join
forces with his forest animal friends to save Santa and the reindeer from the Black Wolf and become a Christmas hero…just like his father! Featuring all-star voice talent including teen sensation Emma Roberts (Nancy Drew, Aquamarine) and funny-man Norm MacDonald (“The Norm Show,” “Saturday Night Live”), The Flight Before Christmas is a heartwarming yuletide tale filled with colorful endearing characters such as Julius the flying squirrel
and Wilma the cheeky weasel.

My favourite tradition, is toasting almonds on Christmas Eve. I usually buy whole almonds, skin them (throw them into some boiling water, let them sit, into cold water and squeeze off the skin), half them and put them on a cookie sheet with about a tsp of melted butter. Put them in a low oven; your nose will tell you when they are toasted! Sprinkle with salt, mix with raisins and you have a great treat to snack on during the holidays!
Thanks

We like to drink cider and sing songs while we put the tree up.
A tradition I long to have, but can’t get help on, is to have a manger in my living room instead of the tree. Then through the month of December when someone does something nice for someone else just because with no acknowledment they can put a piece of straw in the manger. We’ll see how soft the bed is for baby Jesus on Christmas morning.
I can’t get anyone to make a manger for me, though.

Being that our girls are small, we are just starting out on Christmas traditions…or starting new ones at least. =)
We love baking together, and creating Christmas cookies, then driving around seeing all of the Christmas lights together. =)

Every Christmas Eve, we gather the kids into the car and drive around town to look at all the Christmas light displays - all the while listening to Christmas songs on the radio.

Our favorite Christmas tradition is to drive around on Christmas Eve and check out all the holiday displays people have at their homes and have a “contest” and giveaway “awards” for the best display, worst display, most colorful, most ligths and so forth. Then we go home, have some hot chocolate, track Santa on the NORAD site and watch “A Christmas Story”.

My parents have always had an artificial tree, so when I got married I thought that’s what I would have too. The thing is, my husband’s family always cut down a real tree. As much as I like to have my way, I gave in and we went and cut down a Christmas tree for our first Christmas together and we have every year since. Never doing it before we were married, I didn’t realize how much fun it could be and it is now one of my favorite traditions.

Definitely going out and chopping down our own Christmas tree. It always winds up being too big for our living room which is ok, but we just laugh because it looks so small out in the fields.

Before presents and breakfast on Christmas morning, my family sits together by the front window and we take turns reading the story of Christ’s birth from the Bible. My mom always made sure we read the story together before opening presents, so that we knew what we were really celebrating. As a kid, it was hard to sit still when I knew that PRESENTS came next . . . but now I look forward to our reading time the most.

One of my favorite Christmas traditions is decorating our baby tree. We are a foster family and we have an ornament with the name of each child that has lived with us, every year we put all of their ornaments on our baby tree in the dining room and as we hang each ornament we reflect on their time with our family and say a prayer for them.

My favorite Christmas tradition is spending Nochebuena (Christmas Eve - I am Cuban) at my husbands grandmother’s house. She throws a big party every year and everyone gathers to eat, drink, and pretty much be merry. Santa always makes an appearance bearing gifts for the little ones. My other favorite Christmas tradition is decorating the house for Christmas. It always makes me so happy. Thank you.

Another favorite thing is to search for our Christmas Tree with a thermos full of hot chocolate.
