A Low Calorie Snack For Your Eyelashes! {A Giveaway!}

LashFoodIf you’re a frequent reader here, you know that I’m slightly obsessed with beauty products – especially anything that makes my eyelashes look fabulous.  Like mascara.  I love that stuff.  Jillian even wrote a post about mascara being a must-have, so I know I’m probably not alone on this one, right?

Long luxurious lashes rock, and I was so excited to be given the opportunity to try LashFood – a natural eyelash conditioner that comes with a guarantee — longer fuller lashes or your money back!  Of course, the process takes 2-4 weeks, but that is totally worth it!  I’ve only been using it for a week, so I can’t yet attest to it’s performance, but I can already tell you what I like about it.  It’s an all-natural product that is unscented and doesn’t irritate my eyes.  It is super easy to apply – it has a little brush on the end of a wand, and you apply the liquid 2 times a day to your eyelashes just like you would liquid eyeliner.  It doesn’t interfere with my makeup – I just put in on in the morning before my makeup and at night after I wash it off.

Want stronger fuller eyebrows?  LashFood works for that too!  Of course, beauty is hard work and sometimes expensive.  LashFood will run you $130 for a tube, but for people with brittle or short lashes, it sounds entirely worth it!

I’ll be sure and let you know how my experiment with LashFood goes, but for now I wanted to give you a chance to win a tube of it for yourself!

Win it! To enter, just leave a comment on this post with a question you’d like to see Jillian, our in-house beauty expert, answer on this site.  It can be anything beauty, skin, or makeup related.  If you can’t think of one, I’ll take any comment related to why you want to win, so long as it includes some effort.  After that, every other (pertinent) comment left on this site on other posts from now through March 7th will count as an extra entry each.  You don’t need to come back to this post and tell me you commented on another post, I can stalk track you via your email/IP address.   As usual, extra entries are also available for stumbling Chic Shopper Chick (leave your stumble name), subscribing to my site, following me on Twitter, and blogging about this giveaway with a link back here.  That’s it, so good luck!

US entries only, winner will be chosen via random.org at the end of the contest. Winners are posted here, please leave a valid email address or blog address if you’d like to be contacted should you win. Winner has 72 hours to claim their prize. This contest ends at 11:59 pm CST on March 7th, 2009.

Superbowl Stunner: A How To for You!

February 27, 2009 by

I love Jennifer Hudson and I don’t think I’m alone here.  She’s talented, fearless and always looks fabulous.  She’s come a million miles since her underdog days on American Idol, and it’s been such a thrill to watch her grow into a stunning young woman.

Her makeup is always PERFECT.  Whether she’s walking the red carpet, or making an appearance, or giving one of her sensational performances.

I’m STILL in love with her makeup at the Superbowl earlier this month, and I know many other people thought she looked particularly fabulous for the occasion.  If you loved her look too, here is how you can get the look with a how to courtesy of her incredibly talented make-up artist Sam Fine – who also gives great face to Queen Latifah (Interested in a ‘how to’ for Queen Latifah?  Visit my blog).

TO GET THE LOOK:

The 2009 NFL Superbowl on Sunday, February 1st marked Jennifer Hudson‘s comeback and she couldn’t have looked more gorgeous as she sang the Star Spangled Banner. Makeup Artist Sam Fine details below how to get a look that screams naturally confident.

Jennifer is very trusting with her team and really allowed us to collaborate to bring a look that is fresh and new to her,” says Sam. “She was performing a classic song, so I gave her a classic look that would speak to the song she was performing.”

Get that Confident Glow
“On a field seen by millions of people, it’s important to have beautiful skin,” advises Sam. “I like to start with a perfect canvas – that is a priority.”
How to: Start by layering bronzer onto the cheek bones using Mac Mineralized Skin Finish in Brunette. Then, apply a vibrant blush on top to add a pop of color.

Create a Classic Eye

“I wanted to play up the gold buttons on her jacket,” says Sam. “So I used a golden brown eye shadow on the eyelid.”
How To: Apply a light brown eye shadow across the lid. Then use Avon’s Ultra Luxury Eye Liner in Black on the inside rim of the eye to add depth and definition.  “You can’t do a performance without false lashes,” states Sam. “They give the eyes sparkle in a naturally glamorous way.”

How To: Apply the false lashes and then fuse them with your own lashes using a great mascara like Avon’s SuperSHOCK Mascara.

Nude Lip is a Must

The overall look was natural, beautiful and confident. “Jennifer was so excited – I think her team was more nervous than she was,” admits Sam. “We knew how important this was to her. But she was so clam and focused, listening to the song throughout the session to perfect the timing.”

Born Free Rawks Baby’s World

Hi CSC readers!  Sarah here again with a new baby product review!  A couple of months ago Nick and I went to do our pre-registering-scouting-trip-so-that-we-won’t-be-overwhelmed-with-registering thing (what?  It’s a thing, right?  All soon-to-be first time parents take the scouting trip…I am sure of it!) The Born Free product line caught my eye as soon as we entered the bottles and pacifier section.  I am not going to lie, it caught my eye originally because the word FREE cracks me up when it comes to this baby.  After all of our infertility struggles I gotta say that this baby will most definitely be Born Loved, and Born Desperately Wanted, but really not Born FREE.  So in my head I planned to register for some of the products just as my own personal joke with myself.  I am easily amused.

pacifiers2Anyway, imagine my surprise when I get to actually review some of the Born Free products!  This was stuff I was going to buy anyway, does life get any better?  I have now learned that there are TONS of great reasons to buy Born Free products, most of them well beyond the fact that the name amuses me.  The actual key to the line is that it is BPA and PVC free.  If you have been reading Erika for long, you know she is a huge advocate for all things natural and especially BPA free.  Her focus on the issue made me very aware of the plastic containers I owned, and I knew I wanted all BPA-free products for the baby.  This means that Born Free was perfect!

The company has a full line of bottles (both BPA-free and glass) along with BPA free nipples, training cups and teetherdrinking cups.  The newest addition to their line of products are their pacifiers and teethers which are the two official products I am reviewing.   Both products seem wonderful.  The pacifiers are for day and night use and have a cute little flexible handle so to not inhibit sleep.  They are orthodontic and collapsible to encourage the natural development of baby’s teeth and gums and a breathable shield to reduce skin irritation.  The teether is designed by a pediatric dentist so that it stimulates and soothes baby’s’ gums and allows for easier teeth eruption.  It can be stored in the refrigerator and features a built-in cavity for anesthetic paste, an easy-grip handle and five different textures to keep the baby entertained.

What it comes down to for me is that these are basic must-haves for all babies.  If you are going to buy pacifiers and teethers, why not get the best? Get the ones that will have no chemicals for you to worry about later, and that are designed by dentists in the pedeatirc field.  Seems like the obvious choice to me.  So if you are in the market for some wonderful baby bottles, pacifiers and teethers, then check out Born Free.  You can find it pretty much everywhere!

Chic Tunes Tuesday – Mardi Gras Style!

Mardi Gras

Bourbon Street during Mardi Gras. I stay far, far away.

Happy Mardi Gras!  I’m proud to say that I was born and raised here in the New Orleans metro area, and am essentially a part of “old” New Orleans.  My family and ancestors have been a part of this great city since it’s inception.  Growing up here I think it is really easy to take the culture and history for granted a bit, and it wasn’t until I was in college that I started to truly appreciate the rich traditions and history that we have as a state.

Naturally, Carnival season is one of those traditions!  If you don’t know, Carnival starts on January 6th, which is Kings Day (or Twelfth Night) and goes through Mardi Gras Day itself (the date of which changes each year, depending on the date of Easter!  Mardi Gras is scheduled to be 47 days before Easter.).  I know, it’s kinda confusing, but in a nutshell it was a season created to “live it up” before Lent begins.  It is such a fun and festive time of the year, and well, the fact that you can only buy King Cakes during Carnival Season doesn’t hurt either.  (Can you say yummy?)  I do want to say that the seedy side of the Carnival Season that is so often played up on TV and in the movies IS NOT how Mardi Gras really is to the people that live here.  The flashing, drunkeness, excuse to do whatever you want type of attitude is one that sweeps into town along with the hoards of tourists, NOT the locals.  As a matter of fact, we hate that you think that is ALL that Mardi Gras is!

As a native New Orleans girl, I grew up hearing the music of the city.  During Carnival, that music takes on a very specific sound, and there is music that I know by heart – every beat, every tinkling of the piano keys, the sound of each horn – that has been ingrained in my soul since I was a child.  It was never “forced” upon me, it just found its way into my heart by virtue of its mere existence.  Then one day, not too long ago, I realized that people who aren’t from here have no idea what this odd sounding mix of music actually is!  To think that it sounds foreign to your ears truly blows my mind!  How can you not know what it means to Second Line, or to instinctively hum “Big Chief” under your breath?

So, with that, I give you Chic Tunes Tuesday – Mardi Gras style.  All of the songs linked here have multiple re-makes, but these are the originals, and the best versions, in my opinion.  Enjoy this fun mix of Jazz and Blues songs – and mostly enjoy hearing a little bit of Mardi Gras!

1. “Mardi Gras Mambo” by The Meters – Play this song and NOLA folk can’t help but dance.  I promise we know every word!

2. “Carnival Time” by Al Johnson  – Frequently played on the radio this time of the year, Carnival Time is a favorite, and yet another way that you know the season has arrived!

3.  “Big Chief” by Professor Longhair – This song is very old, but that hasn’t stopped it from becoming one of the main Mardi Gras Anthems.  There are words to the song, but most people just know it by the instrumental part.  I was on the dance team when I was in High School, and we marched (for 3 straight weekends) in 6-8 parades a year.  This song was one that our band played during the parades, and I can STILL remember the dance that we did to it.

My cousin and her husband Second Line at their French Quarter Wedding.

My cousin and her husband Second Line at their French Quarter Wedding.

4. “The Second Line” by Stop, Inc.  – A New Orleans tradition, but one commonly associated with Mardi Gras, the second line referred to the people drawn to the brass band processions because of the music.  A sweet tradition at New Orleans weddings is to hire a brass band and “Second Line” to the reception, with all of your guests following behind you.  My cousin Jennifer recently did this at her wedding, and it’s so much fun.  (And it gave French Quarter tourists quite the eye full!)

5.  “Hey Pocky Way” by the Neville Brothers  – I have no idea what it means, but I groove to this song almost every year!  One of my faves, and sure to get me dancing and acting silly!

Can’t get enough?  There are SO many great songs that I associate with Mardi Gras, that it was hard to choose just five!  You can also check out “Iko Iko“, and “Go To The Mardi Gras“.

Open Your Soul to Seal! {Giveaway Closed}

I’ve readily admitted to being a music lover.  I’m also a car-dancer, and sing-at-the-top-of-my-lungs kinda girl.  Little AG and I frequently turn our TV to the Satellite radio channels and groove to music in our living room.  She recently has learned to try to sing along with music, which basically just sounds like “ahhh, daaaa laaaaaaaa” no matter what the song is, but it’s still cool.  It comes as no surprise really, seeing as how I’ve always been a (loud and usually off-key) singer myself!

One of my favorite memories from my teenage years is driving to New Orleans with my mom, singing Seal’s “Kiss From A Rose” at the top of our lungs.  Seriously, it probably bordered on shouting, but we sang and laughed and then hit repeat on the CD player so that we could do it all over again.  (And yes, mom, I’m positive that you still sing some of the wrong words.) We love that song, and that was the first Seal CD I ever owned.

Seal just recently teamed up with PBS for an amazing concert that originally premiered on February 12th, and you can check your local listings for air dates.  Check it out as it airs for the rest of the month!  I know you won’t be disappointed because his music is really so awesome!  Wanna taste of the music for yourself?  Check out the widgets below!

Thanks to the One2One Network, I have a Seal CD to giveaway to one lucky Chic Shopper Chick reader!  The best part is that it’s actually autographed by Seal himself!  To enter, just leave a comment on this post telling me why you want to win! (Something more than “I wanna win” would be great!)  After that, every other (pertinent) comment left on this site on other posts from now through March 3rd will count as an extra entry each.

Make a Statement!

french jewelryThe best way to update your wardrobe each season (besides a wallet-busting shopping spree?) is to invest in what I’d like to call a “statement piece”.  A bold new coat, a great new pair of shoes, or a new piece of jewelry can do the trick!  Of those, I think one of the easiest is choosing a new piece of jewelry.  Find something unique, perhaps a bit bigger than you would normally wear, but something that still reflects your personality.

My statement piece this winter was this gorgeous necklace that I found on Etsy – an antique-style “Love Meter” that really spins.  Remember being a little girl and picking flower petals off a daisy while saying “He loves me, he loves me not, he loves me…” until you had gotten down to the last petal?  Well, in French we say “Il m’aime un peu, beaucoup, passionnément, à la folie, pas du tout” – which translates to “He loves me a little, very much, passionately, madly, not at all.”  I love that it leaves you with a few more options, don’t you?  (not to mention much better odds!)

This is the perfect statement piece for me because it fits my personality – it’s a constant reminder of how great it feels to be in love, it’s fashionable and unique, and it’s in French, no less.

My statement piece for Spring?  A fabulous pair of pink or red heels.  Or maybe both!

What’s your statement piece?  Do you buy one?  Even if you never have – what would you buy if you could?

Mascara is My Must Have. What’s Yours?

I want to start out by saying that this is not the original entry I had taken the time to write.  My original post was lovely.  I promise.  In any case, let’s see if I can get this going again since that post mysteriously VANISHED.

When Erika asked if I’d start contributing to CSC I was incredibly flattered, super excited and also a little bit nervous. I know I’ve been doing the make-up thing for a while now, and I’m definitely a bon-a-fide hustler making my name in my own scene, but its always slightly intimidating to be the new girl. Especially when you’re the new girl on a website maintained by a really fabulous young woman who seems to have this blogging thing down a lot more than I do in my own little corner of the internet.

I do my best on my own site, constantly trying to strike a balance between personal and professional, and product reviews and beauty tips. Trying to find the appropriate balance on my own site can be tough though, and it often means that I don’t get to let my readers in on as many great products and how-to’s as I might like. So when Erika asked if I’d share my tips with you, I couldn’t resist the opportunity! Here on CSC I’ll be able to give you all the tips I have, even the ones that might not have a home on my own blog because I’m busy blogging about a photoshoot or recent work.

I thought for my first post I would share my must have mascara’s and the best way to apply them. It is one of Erika’s make-up obsessions, and it is also one of mine…And I think it’s the perfect way to get things started. If you too share our passion for luscious lashes, then you will love the following two mascara’s: Benefit BADgal and Maybelline Great Lash.

Benefit BADgal is my favorite! It creates thick and full lashes that look incredibly sexy on any woman! However, some of my clients and friends have complained that the brush on this mascara is too big and they aren’t comfortable handling it. My suggestion is to bend the tip of the wand. You don’t have to bend it a lot – Just a slight bend will allow you greater control over the brush because you’ll be able to twist and turn it in more directions than if you leave the wand straight.

If BADgal doesn’t work for you, there is always Maybelline Great Lash! There’s a reason that this mascara has a cult following: It does not disappoint! It’s virtually fool proof, and in my opinion is one of the most consistent mascara’s on the market. When applying this mascara, I recommend TWO coats applied one right after the other. You don’t want this mascara to dry before applying a second coat otherwise you’ll end up with spider lashes; And seriously, who wants spider lashes?

Note: If you’re already devoted to a specific mascara, you can still try my tip for bending the tip of the mascara wand. No matter what mascara you use, you will get optimal control if you bend the tip which means you’ll be able to cover every inch of lash!  Trust me, maneuvering the wand will be easy breezy with this trick!

That’s all for this week, but please let me know what you might be interested in reading! I’m really excited to have a new network of girlfriends with a love of beauty, and I hope that you’ll share your own tips in the comment section and also leave questions there about anything beauty related that you might want to see covered in my posts.

You are also welcome to visit my blog – Your feedback is appreciated there as well!

I look forward to writing, and sharing my tips with all of you!

You know the worst part about traveling?  Hands down, it’s the unpacking and putting stuff away.  Why in the WORLD did I pack THIS MUCH STUFF?  I’m all — oh yeah, stick that in there in case we need it! – that is until I find myself (literally) sprinting across the Houston airport with something like 5 carry-ons AND a kid in a stroller.   All this trying to make it to my connecting flight in a “terminal” that is nothing more than a converted trailer.  For reals – Gate 84E?  Wouldn’t that be easier as Gate 89? Anyway, yeah, it’s at that point I regret throwing the roll of blue painters tape in the suitcase, as well as trying to shove in the last 3 issues of Vogue and In Style.  And did I really need to bring her mini-piano?  REALLY?!

How about some music?  I’ve been bopping around the house all day, and I’ve declared these my favorites of the week.  Check ‘em out on iTunes.

1.  Thinking of You – Katy Perry — Her first single was catchy but not something I’d add to my iPod, but her last two singles lifehousebroken– this one being her newest — have really captured my attention.  I love this song, and I’m impressed that she can do a ballad equally as well as snarky pop.

2.  Broken – Lifehouse — This song came on the radio yesterday on our way home from Florida and I loved it so much that I googled the only lyrics I could remember.  When I discovered it was Lifehouse and realized what the song was called I couldnt’ help but giggle — I had already downloaded it a week ago because I really liked it.  So yeah, at the least I can say that my taste in music is consistent.

3.  1, 2, 3, 4 – Plain White T’s – Great lyrics, really sweet, reminds me of why I love “Hey There Delilah” so much.

4.  Love Remains the Same – Gavin Rossdale — I’ve been hearing this song for a couple of weeks and today when it came on Sirius I came flying into the living room to see who sings it.  I am totally impressed with Gavin Rossdale – I love the sound of this song, as well as the lyrics.  What a difference 10 years made for this guy, eh?

5. Waitin’ on a Woman – Brad Paisley – Ok, ok, I’ll admit it.  This song made me cry.  Like, tears streaming down my cheeks cry.  Such a beautiful song about what it’s like to spend life waitin’ on a woman.   I won’t ruin the surprise, but I’ll just say that the end of the song is what made me cry. If you hate country music, google the lyrics, at the very least.

Ok, ok ok…admit it – what do you think of when you hear “Yanni”?  Right.  I’m sure it’s the same reaction that my husband gave me when I said something about writing this post.  But um, Yanni Voices is SOOO different, seriously.  Yanni has discovered these 4, incredible, powerhouse singers who are young and fresh and will make your jaw drop – especially if you are a music afficionado (though you may say snob if you prefer) like me.  The songs are powerful and moving – the type of music that has the ability to fill you with emotion.  I know I sound all sappy and girly (probably because I am both of those things, and glad to be that way, actually) but the new Yanni Voices CD has become a favorite of mine during Little AG’s naptime or anytime I’m feeling mellow, really.

PBS is airing a special of this talented group of singers which was a process 2 years in the making.  Think of it as a sort of Making the Band, but um, with some serious talent and no emphasis on dancing.  You can check out the airdate for the special in your city, check out a short promo video, or find out if Yanni Voices will be on tour in a city near you.

Thanks to the One2One Network, I had the opportunity to preview the Yanni Voices CD and DVD – and as I said above I was really very impressed.  If this sounds like something you would like then it’s your lucky day, because I also have a copy of the CD and DVD to givaway to you, as well as some Godiva Chocolate Truffles to sweeten the deal.  Talk about your ultimate de-stress package!

Win it! To enter just leave me a comment below telling me why you would like to win this for yourself or someone else!  It’s that simple!  After that, every other (pertinent) comment left on this site on other posts from now through February 23rd will count as an extra entry each.

CSC Welcomes Jillian To Our Team!

jillianvillafaneI am very excited to be bringing a second contributor on board here at Chic Shopper Chick and am even more excited to tell you all about who she is!  Back in October I met Jillian during the Hot Blogger Calendar Photo Shoot when she worked her magic as a makeup artist to make me camera-ready (I’m not even kidding when I tell you that she AIRBRUSHED my makeup!)  She immediately put me at ease – she was so sweet and lots of fun during the entire process – we chatted about makeup and style, and she made the entire experience completely stress-free.  And, really, that is saying a lot since I tend to be a beauty snob and quite picky at times.  She was completely devoted to creating a look for me that I loved, and just giggled and obliged me when I asked for even more mascara.  It was a great experience!

About a month ago I started thinking that I wanted to have a regular beauty column here on Chic Shopper Chick, and I immediately thought of Jillian.  I was very excited when she agreed, so starting this week she is going to be giving you great tricks and tips, as well as recommending great products for you to use to spice up your daily beauty routine!  As a professional make-up artist and beauty blogger herself, Jillian is on top of all of the newest trends in the beauty industry and so I’m majorly pumped to have her writing weekly here!  Her work encompasses a broad spectrum of clients and celebrities including: Verizon, Rogan, LRG, Interview Magazine, CBS, the CW Network, FOX; David Allen Grier, Levon Helm, Santogold, Jennifer Missoni, Zuleikha Robinson and Freddy Rodriguez, among others.  You can see that she is very accomplished, and we’re thrilled to have her on board!

To hold you over until she starts posting this week, you can check out Jillian’s blog or her website to see some of her work.  Don’t forget to give her a warm welcome – we’re thrilled to have her!

UPDATED:  Do you have a topic or trick or product that you want Jillian to talk about?  Let her know in the comments here and she will do her best to answer your questions!

Gotcha Covered!

clipnfeed11Hi Chic Shopper Chick readers!  Sarah here again to do another baby product review.  I am planning on breast feeding this sweet little baby once he or she joins our family, so I was THRILLED to receive the Clip n’ Feed.  I had put some (most likely not enough) thought into how exactly to go about breast feeding in public.  I am not one to go into a separate room and, God forbid, miss some important conversation!  I like to be where the people are, so I knew I needed something to assist with feeding the baby while remaining with the general public.  In my head I would toss a blanket over the baby, but hadn’t thought of it much beyond that point.

Next thing I know the Clip N’ Feed arrives.  I rip into the package to check out the latest product and I realize someone out there knows their stuff!  This thing has a neck strap (how am I always reviewing products with a neck strap?) or it simply has two clasps that clip onto your shirt.  This allows the cover to stay in place.  This means there will be no fear of me shifting in my seat or, you know, getting over excited when talking, and accidentally dropping the blanket and flashing the room.  I am typically not a self conscious person, but the idea of flashing bare boob and stomach (why does the stomach bother me more than the boob?) is not my idea of fun, so I was totally sold on the Clip and Feed.

clipnfeed2The more I looked at the product, the better it got.  First off, the actual cloth is extremely light weight.  Erika told me that when she was nursing Little AG, she got really hot under a blanket, and since I am due in June I see the light fabric being a real plus.  In addition, the fabric is beautiful!  They have several varieties online, so you can pick a style that suits  you best.  The cover is extremely long, even on my tall figure.  It will truly work for everyone.  There is even a cute little pocket!  I am a sucker for a pocket.  The designers were also smart enough to add a couple extra Velcro loops to the cover so that is works as a stroller and car seat cover as well.  The Clip N’ Feed is wonderful all around.  I highly recommend it for all mom’s planning to breast feed!

Chic Tunes Tuesday

It is SO me to start a new column one week and then um, forget to do it the next week!  See, you come back to CSC to read my stuff not only because you think I’m cool (you DO!?  Wow!  Thank you!  I’m flattered!) but because you can always expect the unexpected.  Yup, that’s right, spread the word, tell your friends – it’s not a newsflash to my friends, but your friends?  They might enjoy watching the craziness unfold before their eyes.

This Chic Tunes Tuesday is coming to you from the Westin in Alexandria, VA – where I am tempted to take their dual-showerhead “heavenly shower” home with me in my suitcase.  We’re here with hubby while he’s at a conference, and so far the most I’ve done is drive around town a bit.  Tomorrow I have high hopes for lunch with my friend Lindsay and her son, some shopping at Nordstrom Rack (I’ve heard so much about it yet have never been!), and then taking Little AG to see Disney On Ice at the Verizon Center tomorrow night.

Oh, and I got to try Iceberry today, which for the record, tastes JUST like Pinkberry.  (Picture me doing a happy dance in your head, because I definitely did it at least twice!)  I was beyond pleased and it was delish, though I was a bit perturbed that they wouldn’t let you sample the flavors first.  The taste is so unique that I wasn’t sure if I was willing to branch out and try something besides the original, so I didn’t.  Yes, I’m pseudo-obsessed with Fro-Yo.  It’s a charming quirk of mine, m’kay?

Moving along to the reason you clicked over to read – the music!  Last week a couple of people asked WHY I chose the songs I did, so this week I’m including commentary.  Here are 5 songs I’m lovin’ on this week, in no particular order.  (Suddenly I feel like I’m announcing the finals of the Miss America Pagent!)

Keith Urban

1.  “You Found Me” by The Fray — Heard it on the radio yesterday, whipped out my phone and wrote a note to myself to download it ASAP.  Haven’t regretted it yet.

2.  “Angels on the Moon” by Thriving Ivory  — Sort of alternative/pop, not sure what to think of the lyrics but she song makes me want to sing along as loudly as I can, so it scores points in my book.

3.  “I Will Be” by Leona Lewis  — Her new single – it’s strong and soulful.  I’m thinking I should download more of her stuff.

4.  “Sweet Thing” by Keith Urban  — It’s Keith Urban, it’s new, he rocks.  Need I say more?

5.  “Rain King” by Counting Crows — I’ve always been a CC fan, but I heard this one the other day and was reminded of how much I really, really like it!  Added it to my On-The-Go playlist, now it’s on perpetual shuffle.

Perhaps it’s totally cliche’ but I will never ever turn down a bouquet of flowers, especially roses.  Roses and I have a love/love relationship – especially pink or white roses!  I know red roses represent love, but a bouquet of white or pink roses has the ability to make me immediately melt into an Erika puddle.  So men, just a tip – even the most non-traditional woman will appreciate Valentine's Day Rosesflowers from you on Valentine’s Day.   You can hand-deliver them yourself or have them delivered to her at home or at work so she knows you’re thinking about her – either way will make her swoon!

The folks at KaBloom are working hard to help make Valentine’s Day fantastic – so they are offering a special of 2 dozen roses delivered for $49.99.  That’s a really, really great price and you have lots of options to choose from!  KaBloom even offers same day delivery if you order by 2 pm (thought I’m not sure if that will hold true on Valentine’s Day itself, so all of you procrastinators should get your orders in early!).

kabloom_logoKaBloom has offered to giveaway one of their Valentine’s Day specials of 2 dozen roses, delivered on Valentine’s Day to one lucky Chic Shopper Chick reader’s recipient of choice!  This is a fast-moving contest that will end at 5 pm on Thursday, February 12th so that the winner has time to choose their flowers and have them delivered on Saturday!  In other words, enter below and get 2 dozen roses sent for free to your significant other, friend, or family member!  Rawk!

Win it! Visit KaBloom’s website and decide which Valentine’ Flowers you would order for someone if you were to win. Then come back here and leave a comment here telling which ones you’d choose and who they would be for.  I just might throw in an extra entry for anyone who details any sweeping romantic gestures that they may be considering for Valentine’s Day – just because I’m a romantic sap and I want to know!

Winner will only have until Thursday night at midnight to claim their prize. This contest ends at 5:00 pm CST on February 12th, 2009.
