WalMart Earth Month Giveaway Package
Over the past few years I have made a much more concerted effort to “go green” in my daily lifestyle. Going green doesn’t mean you have to do a complete 180 and sell your car to start walking everywhere! You can do simple things each day to make your life more green and leave a much smaller imprint on the environment. I have started bringing reusable bags to the grocery store, buying organic and local products when I can, and using non-toxic, eco-friendly cleaning products. Before I was a mom, these things were important to me, but once I held my sweet baby girl in my arms, I realized how much more I wanted for her life, and how important it was to protect everything around us so that it would be here for her, and for her children. It might be cliche and cheesy, but hey, I never said I wasn’t those things! (I am most certainly both!)
I especially feel good about my decision to feed Little AG only organic milk, foods, and produce whenever possible. I am glad that I know exactly what she is getting, and I never have to worry about fillers or unnecessary additives. I also try to use only organic skincare and body products on her delicate skin (do you know that the things you put on your skin gets partially absorbed into your blood stream?) so that I can protect her however possible. I also shop for organic clothing, and yes, you CAN get stylish organic clothing!

I gave up plastic bags at the supermarket!
I have thrown out most cleaning products have have gone eco clean. Or make my own.
I recycle my used magazines and newspapers at those green & yellow recycling bins you always see outside of schools and church’s.
I use only eco-friendly laundry detergents and cleaning products in my home!

I have a very limited budget so I’m not able to do as much as I would love to, but there are a few steps that I’m taking now to go green: we are reducing the amount of waste we use by using reusable containers for lunches and drinks, we are trying to completely cut out using paper towels and plastic bags.
I hang my clothes out on the line.
I have a Little Green and it’s the best. It pretty much got me a security deposit back once when I thought I would lose it.
i have been doing a vegetable garden for a number of years–all organic–cover crops,mulching,earthworms,and friendly bugs
I only carry reusable totes when shopping, recycle any and everything I can and have started using more eoc friendly cleaning and laundry products.

We are growing a small garden and purchasing some of our meat from a local farmer. (His prices ROCK!)
We recycle all of our paper and plastic products. I even bought a shredder so I can shred and recycle even the mail with personal information on it.
Car pooling.
I have three kids in diapers, and I use only cloth ones, and I also use old rags for wipes. I also wash only in cold water and have for many years now.
We recycle at home and at work! Plus I work in an environmental lab…that’s gotta help me out a little !
We do a lot of the basics, but we are really trying hard to force the reusable bags thing…for some reason we usually forget and then feel HORRIBLY guilty, so that is our current work in progress!

We are recycling aluminum cans and newspapers. I have started to take my own bags grocery shopping. I have also quit buying bottled water and use bottles I’ve filled instead.

Save the earth! Come on people! It does not take much of your time to keep it green for your children and grandchildren who will have to live on this planet. The birds need it even the bees need it and yes we humans really need it.
We’re watching our energy and water consumption, reusing as much as possible, and recycling what we can’t reuse.
We have downsized to just one car. I use the re-usable totes at the grocery store. Now that the weather is getting nicer, I have started hanging the clothes out to dry. Since we are a family of five, that’s a lot of energy saved.

i try to use anything i can for anything i need. i use all the old plastic milk jugs to carry water to my garden. it uses less water and the exercise is good for you.
We’ve turned our thermostat to 68 degrees and car pool with friends and family everywhere we go. No bottled water allowed!
I have been using a reusable bag when I go shopping and have started recycling.
I turn off all power strips when I go to bed.

We recycle our paper, plastics, glass and aluminum. Also we walk to school instead of taking the car. Now the it’s spring, we plan to hang our clothes out instead of using the dryer.

I’m going green by taking my own bags to the grocery store and by recycling beer bottles and soda cans.
I always take those canvas bags to the grocery store and I use the new light bulbs. I’ve also been recycling for years.
This may seem silly but instead of purchasing paper cups, we recycle glass jars. We drink out of them and wash them afterwards. I do use our real glasses when company comes over.
We recycle, replaced traditional light bulbs with energy efficient ones, and have gone to paperless billing and make payments online. Thanks for the chance to win!
I keep my tote bags in the trunk so when I go food shopping, ta daaa, they are right there waiting for me, and when cutie bagger boy says “Paper or plastic?” I say, Use my TOTE BAGS Please!!! GO ME!!!!

I will be moving to a new neighborhood that does not have curb-side recycling pick-up, so I will be gathering all my recyclables weekly to take them to a recycling drop-off.
I unplug all my hairdryers/straighteners/curlers immediately after use, because it uses energy even if they’re off…this includes most appliances so I do it to things like toasters, too. Also, I heard about this site that sells cute little purses and coin pouches, etc. made from plastic bags, and they’re actually really cute…if you send in 50 colored plastic bags, you’ll recieve a free coin purse. how cool is that? Because even if you use reusable bags now, I’m sure you have a ton og plastic bags still lying around..

Great prize, I have stopped using all plastic shopping bags, I dont buy soda packaged with the plastic rings only in boxes, every little bit helps
Unplugging the microwaves except when using it, so it doesn’t pull electricity to power the little clock. Unplugging rechargers for cell phones etc., except when charging said item. Using the right kinds of light bulbs. Lowering the thermostat. Using energy star appliances.
Growing more of my own foods, so I’ll have to make less trips to the grocery stores for fresh produce this spring/summer. Riding our bikes more, driving less. Using less paper towels and more microfiber cloths.

We recycle everything we can, use cfl bulbs, catch rainwater for plants, make one trip in the car do, can my own vegetables bought at the amish or farmers, cold water for clothes washing, mow grass half as often as we used to, and this year I am going to try my own raised bed garden.
I would love to try this we are trying to go organic on our eatting so why not take it to cleaning too

we are shutting off lights after 7 pm.
We’ve been making sure to recycle whatever we can. In addition, we changed to using our own canvas bags when we go shopping. My husband and I each keep a bunch in our cars, for those last minute stops at the grocery store or hardware store.

No longer using bottle water. Using refillable bottles. Recycling with the county AND dropping off items that the county does not recycle like #5 at Whole Foods. Wrap the water heater to save on energy. Gather shower water to water plants or flush toilet.

My family recycles regularly. My daughter just got us started with compost heap. Actually, it is 55 gallon drum that can be rotated. It is amazing to see everyone in the family getting into “Can this be composted?” I am looking forward to my first batch of “naturalized” fertilizer for my roses.

PS We re-use plastic bags from the grocery store (all the veggie and fruit ones you end up with!) for doggie poop bags, and we use the paper grocery bags for trash bags, instead of plastic.

I bought the reusable bags from Target which I use all the time. For grocery shopping I bought the heavy duty cardboard tote boxes. Love them to carry all the grub in! Even if I run into the drug store for something quick and don’t bring in my bag, I always mention I don’t need a plastic bag..yay!

I recycle glass, aluminum, newspapers and magazines and I compost. I’ve replaced my lightbulbs with flouresent bulbs and use cloth bags when I go grocery shopping for starters.

We plant a garden every year, but THIS year (Yikes!) there’s still some snow left on our lawn! It’s really going to be a challenge t0 grow crops this year, but we’ll go green as best we can.

We recycle our plastic jugs from milk and juice. We’ve changed some light bulbs towards the energy-efficient ones. I run a home daycare, so I re-use the plastic grocery bags to meet the licensing requirement of wrapping each dirty diaper in an individual bag. We water our lawn in the morning before 10am or in the evening after 7pm. We use our dryer during cooler hours of the day to minimize heating the house in the summer. We caulked all our windows and doors. We turned our heater down 2 degrees, and our air conditioner up 2 degrees. I’m sure there’s more, but that’s just off the top of my head. By the way, thanks for offering such a great prize. With the economy so tight, and my husband laid off, freebies sure help.
When I go grocery shopping, I bring my bags so I don’t bring home plastic. I also carry compact acme bags for spur of the moment shopping trips.

I’ve always been a recycler and try to keep my carbon footprint small. I also use reusable shopping bags that were made from recycled bags so my guilt is very low.
I just went a bit greener by putting out a clothesline and making my own detergent.

I’ve started collecting reusable bags where I can, and I always sort my trash. 90% of the light bulbs in my apartment are compact florescents (there are a couple mini bulbs I can’t find replacements for). I shop for produce in our local farmer’s market, and I try to use less water when doing anything.

I bought reusable bags at home depot that I just love. I recycle everything that I can. My light bulbs have all been replaced and this year I plan to grow my own vegetables.

Great contest. I’ve started carrying a reusable tote with me everywhere I go so even on quick errands I won’t need to take a bag. I also make all of my daughter’s baby food and reuse plastic containers instead of a new container for every meal. We also only use reusable water bottles.
One way we’re working on being better stewards of the earth is that we’re setting up a composting system. Very easy, relatively inexpensive, and not only does it reduce what goes in a landfill, it feeds the earth, too.

I recycle everything I possibly can and have been concentrating on reducing and reusing — do those two, and the recycling decreases. I buy used when I can, repair what’s repairable, and think of ways to repurpose items that cannot be repaired or donated in their present condition, rather than just tossing them. And, my family is kind of embarrassed by it, but I take reusable food containers along when we eat out to avoid having to bring leftovers home in styrofoam.

We’re now being very careful with the packaging we choose when buying items, opting for minimal when possible, and we work really hard to recycle all aluminum, glass, and plastic. We’re working on getting in the habit of recycling paper right now, which is a bit more of a challenge, but we’ll get there.
I am attempting to use the cloth shopping bags whenever I go shopping. Right now I remember about 50% of the time (nearly always for groceries but not as good at remembering them for other shopping errands).

We have replaced all lightbulbs with cfl bulbs. We also recycle aluminum cans and we use old newspapers in our vegetable garden to control weeds instead of sprays.We use a Brita pitcher in the fridge and have stopped buying platic bottled water. Our family made a commitment earlier this year to become better stewards of the earth. We have stopped buying water in plastic bottles and each have a reusable water bottle! Also, we have turned down the hot water heater temperature and take 5 minute showers (try)! The thermostat in our home was turned down this winter and we wore heavier clothing to keep warm.

I recently stumbled on your blog and Im loving it! This is a great giveaway. In the past year or so, I have become more educated on living “green” and adopted some new practices within my house to make our footprint on the planet a little less noticeable. I have taught my children to recycle, we use earth friendly, animal friendly, and people friendly cleaning products, we buy recycled items, we freecycle(!!!). We have also made out home more energy efficient. We rent so we can only do so much, but we do everything we can. I have learned to keep my trips to town to a minimum to conserve gas and pollute less. Wow. After typing it all out, I feel really proud of my family, AND all of you!
Instead of using paper towels I purchased some wash clothes and use those for all of my cleaning needs, I can wash them and reuse them.

We recycle, we are paperless, and we ride bikes whenever possible.
I compost and recycle everything possible. Also, we feed our chickens leftovers rather than throwing them out and get nice eggs in return.
We collect aluminum cans at out house. Any money we earn goes to our church camp to provide scholarships for kids who want to attend.
I work with handicap in a group home and we recycle plastics, milk jugs etc & cans. I have started doing theste same things here at home. I always wash in cold water and try to get the residents at work to do the same.
I recycle every possible thing, have a compost pile for yard clippings and kitchen scraps, and got chickens last year that will free range in the yard and provide me with organic healthy eggs.
I have switched to the LED bulbs and also catch rain water off my roof to water our garden. I find other ways to use things that I would have thrown away like the plastic jugs from folgers coffee.

Recycle/reuse/repurpose all we can, no plastic bags, CFL bulbs, conserve what we can through energy use including combining car trips.
Along with our daily recycling efforts, we use ‘hemp tote bags’ for grocery shopping instead of ‘plastic bags’!
We also use three-way lamps in our home! They make it easier to keep lighting levels low when bright light is not necessary!

Instead of buying bottled water, we are drink more filtered water. My son catches the bus, and my daughter walks everywhere. We are now unplugging electronics, like the printer, which we did not do before.
Thanks for the giveaway…We installed “smart” power strips that turn off our electronics (i.e. TV, DVD, desktop computer, printer, microwave, coffee maker, etc.) completely when they are not in use for 15 minutes and / or you physically leave the room; no more “vampire” power use that is wasted !!! (And no more reaching behind desks & other furniture to unplug dusty cords).

Our tap water tastes terrible – we have been buying plastic jugs of water at the store to drink instead. Now we are cutting back on that by flavoring the water (such as making ice tea) and we are installing a Brita filter at the faucet! A green decision that helps us save the other kind of green ($$$) as well!

I have started to replace old lightbulbs with the newer energy efficient bulbs a little at a time as they are more expensive initially. I keep a canvas tote bag in the car for shopping trips and plan to buy more. The biggest thing I have begun to do is instead of throwing away household items I no longer wanted I take them to goodwill because someone else may be able to use them.

The first two things I have done (and they are easy) are switching my light bulbs over to those energy saving bulbs (that are twisty looking) and I have stopped using those plastic grocery bags, especially if I go to get just a few things. If I can carry it to the checkout in my arms, I carry it home like that.
We recycle, use canvas grocery bags, changed the light bulbs in the house, use cloth instead of piles of paper towels, stainles steel water bottles for the whole family, don’t waste electricity, water etc. I guess we do a lot of little things which are second nature by now.
I made matching shopping bags for my kids and I to take to the grocery store. Now they feel included and are always willing to help take the groceries in with me!

We recycle metals, plastics, and newspapers. We also take our own reuseable bags to the store.
We try to use less water so when it rains someone will go outside and wash my car. We also have a buckets by our cutters so I can use that water for my plants.

I’m being a more conscientious shopper by carrying reusable bags and by paying more attention to packaging. I’m opting for organic foods and food that is packaged in eco-friendly ways.
I use only “green” cleaning products. I use a canvas tote bag when shopping. My family just got rid of our second vehicle, and are now carpooling.
I’m trying to be more green by simply not drying every single load of clothes in the dryer. I’ve started routinely using a clothesline to hang some items out to dry. Mind you not all, but especially things like blankets and sheets. jeans, anything that takes a long time to dry in the dryer.
I recycle, limit the use of my heater and air conditioning, and use canvas shopping bags.

We’re trying to use more eco-friendly products, use CFL bulbs, and recycle more. We’ve always paid attention to turning off lights when we leave a room. When we have a “warm snap” in winter, we even turn off the pilot on the furnace to save gas. Of couse, a lot of these tips are more economical, too.
What great products. I try to do my share beginning with recycling anything and everything. I no longer use plastic shopping bags at all. I do not buy bottled water, but filter my own. I use CFL light bulbs now and changed my shower heads. I turn down the thermostat when I’m not at home and use ceiling fans when I am home in addition to the air.
I am a dedicated vegetarian and buy organic, recycled products whenever possible!

We re-use and recycle everything we can. Alot of stuff that people usually throw out I turn into craft projects for the kids. We compost scraps and use them for growing our new lil’ herb garden! I also love that the whole canvas shopping totes, I use them for everything not just shopping!

My biggest effort to go ‘green’ is getting my wife to participate. I try to explain to her in terms that she better comprehends – ‘it’s like a credit card… someday you have to pay it back!
We recycle, use CFL bulbs, carpool to work, buy local produce from our farmers market, take reusable bags to the market, have stopped using paper towels and paper napkins, and have planted our first veggie garden.

We recycle everything that can be recycled, I’m sure we have the most recyclables in town! We are replacing our regular light bulbs with the new one as the old ones burn out.
It is easy to make your life greener – we have our house powered by solar, our own well and we grow our own food. People do not realize that growing your own food save in lots of different ways including but not limited to save the fuel it take to process and transport the fruits and vegetables – also it is so much healthier for your family.
We are trying to go “green” by buying more organic products, carpooling and utilizing energy-efficient lights in our home. We also recycle cans, paper and cardboard, and we bring our own bags when grocery shopping.
I made a pledge this Earth Day to try and expand my use of eco-friendly products into cleaning products this year. I want to focus on laundry detergent and cleansers for my kitchen and hopefully within a year I will be completely converted into all green-friendly cleaning products! We do weekly curbside recycling, we started drinking more water out of reusable cups instead of bottle water, we cut make on length of showers, we only wash cloths in cold water and we hang on clothesline to dry, we make less trips to stores, started buying more greener products, we use totes instead of plastic whenever possible.

Since I’ll soon be moving into my own place, this gift basket of green products will really help me to get started the right way! I try to buy recycled materials as often as possible, and lately I’ve started trying to buy eco-friendly cleaning products as well, although there isn’t enough variety in “green” products to be able to replace many of your old standbys.
We only buy gently used clothing at thrift stores, and donate to charities when things are no longer useful to us in our daily life. We also recycle and repurpose everything you can thing of.

i do the 3 R’s, reduce reuse and recycle. i try to do little things everyday to help. i treat every single day like it’s earth day since it’s a very important issue.
I have switched most of the light bulbs in my house to energy saving ones. I use reusable grocery bags, recycle and compost and try to conserve gas by driving much less. We also have an HE front loader washing machine and never use the dry cycle on our dishwasher. Thank you for the opportunity to participate in this giveaway!
