Nankeen – Art You Can Wear! {Giveaway CLOSED}

I going to have to clean out one of the closets in my house. We have a huge closet in the hallway that is supposed to serve as a “linen” closet. And it does, I suppose. It holds the plethora of air matresses, quilts, comforters, blankets, and lace tablecloths (gifts, never used. I’m waiting until I’m at least 85) that we NEVER use. Really, I could have one extra set of sheets for each bed and then a couple of quilts for company, and STILL only take up the top shelf. I mean, I probably wouldn’t NEED to clean it out if I didn’t need room to store all of my bags. Not that all of my posts on handbags, purses, and totes (oh my!) didn’t clue you in… but I’m slightly obsessed. It’s reached the point where I’m running out of room to put them all.
It’s not often that I can purchase a product that I love and also support the arts at the same time. Scratching your head yet? Nankeen creates stylish bags, pillows, ties, cosmetic bags, and other accessories that are created from 100% cotton and indigo dye using a technique that dates back to the Song Dynasty over three-thousand years ago. It is literally an ancient art form turned into modern design. The white sections that you see on the bag are created by pushing a paste made of soya bean flour and slaked lime through a handmade stencil. Once the paste dries, the fabric is dipped into indigo until the desired color is acheived. Once the fabric is dry, the paste is scraped off to reveal the white designs. The fabric is then washed and ironed before it is used to create the bags and other products that you see here.
I was able to review the Lily Tote, which I absolutely fell in love with. It is sturdy but roomy, and I love the bright pink interior. The jumbo knot serves as a hook to close the top, but still leave it open enough for things to stick out of it, should that need arise. For instance, on a recent flight home, my bag was 11 pounds over the limit. I had filled my Lily Tote with my laptop, a sweater, some books and a magazine, but then I was forced to put additional inventory in it. So I walked through the airport in a sweater with two coats on top, holding my Lily Tote that now had bright pink ballet flats, jeans, and a hairdryer (in addition to the aforementioned items) sticking out of the sides. Thank goodness for that knot closure!

I went to the Nankeen site and I have to say that the Lily bag was my favorite. It looked roomy enough to carry all the items I tote from the two offices that I work at.
I daily visit my Dad who is in a nursing home. I am a source of amusement to the nurses, residents and visitors because of my “ever so stylish” baggage I use to carry my “life” around. I have a pocketbook that weighs about 50 lbs. Grocery bags, shopping bags, etc. I carry Dad’s laundry, personal items, daily items I bring to him such as newspapers, mail and treats. I would be a real “hit” if I had a beautiful bag to carry. I like the Ascot Big Bag, the Ming Tote – well, honestly, they are all beautiful, and functional.
I’m signing and dancing over this giveaway. Really!!! My hubby is always giving me hell about my large carrying bag…until…the day my large carrying bag saved him from a spewing from our youngest daughter who wasn’t feeling well that day. HA! Well, I wasn’t really laughing. It was a large Coach Tote/Diaper Bag.

So anyway, I’m in need of a bag.
I have a thing for Black & White right now which is perfect for this collection! My fav is the Lily Tote. Plus, I love the Fuschia lining.

I love Ming. I studied Japanese Culture in college (I realize Ming is Chinese) but I really love Asian-inspired design in general. All my totes are diaper-related or beach-friendly. I don’t own anything nice for myself, so I’d love to win one for that reason.
This was a very hard decision! I kept going back and forth between the Reef tote and the Hai tote. All of the bags are so simple and classic, my taste exactly.

These bags are very chic looking, tasteful and you can tell they are quite well made. My eye was caught by the Reef Tote – I liked the warm golden yellow interior and the nautical design on the outside. These look roomy (but not shabby) and would do well for everything from casual grocery shopping to a day at the mall.

I’m loving these bags. I’m really drawn to the Reef bag, but just got home from a beach vacation and probably still feeling that. I looked at the bag and first of all, love the yellow interior – so sunny and fresh. I was going to pick the “Ming” so you knew I did go to the other page but I really really do love the “Lily” tote bag the best. First, I love the Butterfly pattern and the pink lining. Also I am one that just has to have a BIG tote to carry all my stuff in and the zippered pocket inside is wonderful to carry my keys that I am forever losing in my bag! The pattern on the hai tote is just a little too busy for me, but I love the other bags! The ming is my absolute favorite, and I like the combination of the bright yellow interior fabric with the outer colors.

They are all pretty but Lily is my favorite. I like ming too. It would be cool if they had some feng shui designs like he coins or signs for prosperity and such.
After looking at the totes on the Nankeen site, the Lily remains my favorite. It goes with everything I own and would be a great addition to my wardrobe. In addition, it’s large enough to hold all the stuff I have to tote around everyday.
Although they are all gorgeous, the first one that really caught my eye was Reef. I like that it is a bit darker than the others, so might not show the every day schmutz I would drag it through! Great giveaway

Love them all but Lily is my favorite. Speaking of big bags reminds me of when I worked in a Re-Hab unit and one of our staff kept complaining of a sore shoulder. Doctor examined her, sent her for a cat scan but could find nothing wrong. She went for therapy for several weeks but without much improvement. Anyway she came into the office for a check-up and sat down opposite the doctor at his desk and put her purse on the floor. Hoping to be helpful I picked it up to place on a nearby table and I could hardly lift it. Having seen her carrying her bag on that shoulder everyday I handed it to doctor without a word. He smiled and asked her if she carried this often and she said everyday to and from work and shopping et al. He pointed out that carrying the excessive weight was probably the cause of her problem. She had carried if for so long she never realzed. Turned out the problem was 6-7 years of accumulated change in the bottom of the bag as she didn’t have a change purse so always threw excess change in the bottom of the bag and never retreived it. When we counted it there was $98.47 cents.

The Lily bag is gorgeous. It’s my first choice because I prefer a traditional rectangular shape. The pattern is lovely, and I love the hot pink that peeks out from inside! It also looks practical — I think it could hold everything I need to schlep around all day. And I appreciate the knot closure, to keep it together.

I love the hai tote. As a Marketing Major with a Studio Art Minor, I’ve been studying patterns and how they effect eye capture coupled with memory. The centered dot sequence boxed by the diagonal, bold lines just makes the blues and whites pop. I defiantly leaves a lasting impression.

I love the coho and song big bags–what a great size for quick weekend jaunt or simple enough for running errands–fabulous fabrics too! Actually thye fabric decision is the hardest cuz they are all great!
I like the coiled rope pattern on the Ming bag. But I really like the pink lining on the Lily better… either one would be awesome!
I would choose the Lily Tote. It is by far my favorite. However, I really like the Loot a lot too. My husband has a beautiful leather weekend bag that we got at our wedding and I’m still stuck packing an old college thing. So the Loot Bag would make me feel much more “in the game”!

Since I’m close to turning 40, and my kids are 5 and 7 but I still look like I am slugging around a “mommy bag” with every imaginable food & drink & toy to amuse/entertain/feed, it is time for style. The Lily Tote definitely has style.
I’m going to have to agree, the lily is my favorite of the totes. But I also love the jia and the lure – and how cool that you can pick different lining colors on some of the bags.

My diaper bag is just so… well, diaper bag. There have been so many times that I wished that I had a cute tote to use instead but nothing has worked. I think the Lily is both adorable (fuchsia lining!) and practical in that it has a knot closure to keep things in and is 20″ wide and 13″ tall. That would definitely be big enough to carry around the things I need for my 2-year-old and 4-month-old daughters. Thanks!

I’m torn between the Lily and the Hia. I relly love them both. The colors are so pretty and so is the pattern. I would use it as a diaper bag/Mommy bag. Now that my son is turning two, he doesn’t need as much stuff but does still need a cup, diapers, etc. This totes looks roomy enough for all of that plus the contents of my purse. It’s stylish, too.

All of the totes from Nankeen are just spectacular! My very favorite is the Reef Tote. I love the nautical inspired fabric, it is so cute! I can think of so many different ways I can use this tote. I have 3 young children under the age of 10 so I am always carrying around lot of their gear with me! This tote will serve as my new chic fashion accessory to store all their gear in! I really like the Ming tote – my partner’ purses are always way too small for all the stuff she carries around with her – this would be ideal
My favorite is the Lily tote. It is a hard choice, and my favorite color has always been blue! I really like these becase they are styish but siple. Often these sorts of things look too urban for me, but this is great as a casual but nice looking option.
I love that Nankeen makes bags that involve environmentally friendly manufacturing and that they are also honor fair labor practices.
I would use the Lily Tote for school as I a teacher in a middle school which happens to have a large Asian population. Currently, I use a leather Coach bag, but I’ve been going green and I have been looking for alternatives to leather as well as companies which practice Fair Labor Laws.

The Nankeen bags are so pretty, they are much more appealing than your standard tote bag! I would choose the Lily tote. My daughter loves butterflies, and, let’s face it, I’d be carrying around her stuff as much as mine. Kids seem to travel with so many various items. Ooh I would choose the Lily. All of them are gorgeous and it was so hard to choose. My husband said I always carry around the kitchen sink with me, but I choose to say that it is my personal filing cabinet. Never know what you might need while you are out and about. Great giveaway.

The design and artistry goes so far beyond what I was thinking when I read … tote bag. I really like the tote bag in their Wave collection. Of the 4 shown in the tote section, I like the Lily bag and expect that it would be so much classier than the messenger bag I’m using at present to carry work material in. All bags have such striking lining and attention to detail that they easily bridge the gap to stylish purse duty.

The reef tote would work perfectly for carrying what we need on our boat this summer. I like the zipper closure so everything stays in the bag and wouldn’t be spilling out. We need to pack diapers, extra clothes, sunblock, sun glasses and hats each time we head out to the lake and need a large enough bag to hold all of it. The colored lining would be so helpful when digging through all the stuff to help find what I am looking for.

I’m really attracted to most of these beautifully contrasting prints, but I have to say the Luna is IT for me! Personally I like the Ming bag the best. I love that it has a bright yellow liner and that it has the knot to close it…giving you that extra little needed room. The fact that the pattern is not overly busy is a major plus also.

I would get the Lily Tote. My son plays soccer so I usually have lots of stuff to bring with me when I watch his games like drinks, blanket, etc. This bag would be very stylish to carry it all in, not to mention it’s his team’s colors. My “uhaul” as I call my bag is filled with everyone’s essentials. I carry extra keys to every vehicle and house of the family. If my bag was taken, easy access to everything. I get a call at least once week to bring a key for a brilliant relative who is locked out of a car or house. A tissue in need for a runny nose or a comb to run through messy hair is all piled into the “uhaul”.
I hope this is the hardest decision I have to make today. LOL I was going back and forth between Lily and Reef when my 1 yr old walked up and pointed to the Lily and said bird.(close enough lol) That made my decision. I have to choose Lily.

I love the Ming Tote, and I have to say, I love the mention of the airport flexibility that you talked about. I have gotten into that situation a few times and it’s very frustrating to me when I have to pull things out of my bag and drag it around with me. Another thing that I love about this bag is that it’s perfect for me to pack my books, lunch, and laptop when I take the train to work. It looks like it would sit on my lap easily and I wouldn’t panic about things falling out while I’m reading on the train.

being a Piscean, i am attracted to the Lure bag…love the fishies swimming upstream and could do either the orange or navy. The interior zipper pockets would be ideal for my keys, phone and card case. I would use it for my outdoor walking events – fairs, festivals, etc. Thanks!

I love the jia bag. It is so unique and can go from day professional to night time dinning. I will go with church clothes or casuel jeans and top. I love it.
I like the Reef tote. The rope pattern is visually appealing and the orangish yellowish lining make it look bright and cheery.

They are really all such beautiful bags it’s hard to pick a favorite! I would love to have the Becket because I need a big bag to take when I have to work weekends and pack a change of clothes/etc.

All the bags are great. I love the pillow in the safari print. I don’t see any bag in that fabric for some reason.
Even though I LOVE the yellow lining of Ming, I’d have to go with the Lily tote. I love the pattern and it looks big enough to fit my things plus a few diapers-wipes as well.
I’m crazy over the Urban Derby Tote. What more could I ask for? It’s my favorite color (blue) has horses and leather handles with a drop strap and leather closure on it. This is the one for me!

I think the best way to spice up someones day is to walk in with a bag that will not be ignored. I think the reef bag is that bag. I must say, I can’t keep my eyes off that bag, no matter what! I hope I don’t affect work habits!

After looking at the possibilities,I have to admit deciding on just one bag was difficult. The Reef Bag looks great and would be my choice! I’m sure I would love them all and because they are made by Nankeen, there going to last.
