Getting Comfortable with Hanes In New York City

August 31, 2010 by Erika
Filed under Accessories, Featured, Shopping, Travel

During all the craziness that is BlogHer, Hanes took the time to throw a little party for the Comfort Crew and our friends, which I truly appreciated.  Anytime I can take a break from a hectic conference schedule to have a Comfortini and a foot and hand massage sounds good to me – because anytime I’m hanging out with my friends at Hanes I know it’s all about comfort.  Heck, I even took a break from my heels-only wardrobe and wore flip flops with my summer dress – they don’t call us the Comfort Crew for nothin’!

I was so glad that my guests Shannon from Traveling Mamas, Stefanie from Mommy Musings, and Debba from Girlfriendology could join me at this fun event!  Michael Moloney of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition was on hand to teach us how to reorganize our sock and underwear drawers (seriously, when is the last time that you did that?  It’s time!) and also to show us just how quickly it could be done.  Celebrity stylist Jenn Falik went back-to-basics and showed us how to create some super-stylish outfits using the awesome new Hanes bras (bandeau?  one shoulder?  both straps?  one bra does it all!) and by layering items like the tanks and tees – great ideas for fall!

It was so great to relax, hang out with my fellow Comfort Crew members, and sip a Comfortini.  I loved learning about all of the new Hanes products in person (I swear that the ComfortFlex Fit Bandini bra is my new BFF – sorry dad for the TMI) and loved feeling like I’m a continued part of Hanes’ social media efforts.  I have learned so much about the brand over the last 7 months, and I am incredibly proud of everything that the brand stands for (green initiatives, support of Susan G. Komen, committment to it’s customers) both online and off.  If you take a minute to watch the video below, you’ll hear me say that I believe Social Media is really important because it’s how people nowadays communicate and relate – and that Hanes is doing an amazing job.  I mean that 100% – Hanes is a standout in this space.

Thanks so much to Hanes and everyone who played a part in hosting such a wonderful, relaxing event in NYC!  Check out Shannon’s post about the Hanes event on Traveling Mamas – including 10 travel tips for packing for comfort!

I couldn’t resist sharing this irresistible contest with my favorite people (that’s you!) – imagine if one of you won!  Knowing that you all love to shop and almost everyone loves to travel, I thought this was one sweepstakes that I couldn’t pass up blogging about!  But hurry, today is the last day to tweet to win!

The US Virgin Islands department of tourism is giving away a shopping trip to two to St. Thomas, which includes a 5-night stay at Bolongo Bay Beach Resort and free tickets to concerts featuring Wyclef Jean, Chrisette Michelle and more.  And really, couldn’t you use a (free) vacation right about now?

@USVIMockoJumbie will be tweeting updates on St. Thomas shopping deals/discounts and shopping tips now and during the Festival. Travelers love shopping in the USVI because there’s a $1600 duty-free allowance for U.S. residents, and prices on electronics, jewelry and designer good are typically lower than on the U.S. mainland. Here’s a list of some deals you can expect to find on St. Thomas during the USVI Shopping Festival:

*30 percent off swimsuits at Purple Papaya, Charlotte Amalie,
*70 percent off select jewelry at Alpha jewelers
*Coupons for free merchandise at A.H. Riise stores
*Designer sunglasses on sale at Solstice Sunglass Hut
*$25 certificate and a free gift at Golden Star Jewelers

So how excited are you?!?!  Go check out the Shopping Festival page for the rules on how to enter.  Go, run, TWEET!  (And don’t forget your favorite fashion blogger if you win – she LOVES to travel!)

Filed under Accessories, Fashion & Style, Featured, Shoes, Shopping

What a great way to celebrate a Friday and a long weekend!

Tory Burch is having a sale and well, I’m so excited that I almost feel like Tory herself has personally invited me to  rifle through her closet and pick out a few things that I like.  You already know I’m crazy about Tory.  I’ve been to her show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, and I wish Audrey’s feet didn’t grow so quickly or I’d have already bought a pair of the kid’s Revas for her!

This is a good sale, y’all.  We’re talking 50% off here.  50% off of my coveted (and no I still don’t have a pair dear readers) Tory Burch Reva.  Everything is on sale.  You can snatch up some gorgeous tunics (which she is oh-so-famous for!), some adorable accessories, and even a skirt or a dress (or two or three!).

Here are a few of my favorite items from the sale:

So what are you waiting for!  Run as fast as your computer will let you to the sale – who knows how much longer you have!  Oh, and if you don’t mind – grab me a pair of the Reva’s while you’re there?  I’m a 9.5.  ;)

Father’s Day Gift Ideas: For The Cool, The Geek, The Superdad

June 5, 2010 by Erika
Filed under Featured, Shopping, Technology

You know, when I started thinking about writing a post for Father’s Day gift suggestions, I realized that (as a non-Father) I would be better off asking an expert.  With that, we have the first ever post on Chic Shopper Chick to be written by a MAN.  Be still my heart.  In my defense, I picked the coolest man I know, who also happens to be wicked smart and a great father.  If you don’t already know Morgan Brown, well, you most definitely should.  So, without further ado, check out his recommendations for Father’s Day!

* * *

With Father’s Day right around the corner it’s always fun to dream of those ideal gifts that you’d love to get as a Dad. Us dads love to think of all the gadgets and toys we’d rather get than the inevitable new tie – that safety blanket for loved ones who think that “Dad is impossible to shop for.”  Well, I’m here to speak for all dads when I say we’re not that hard to shop for.  Especially the geeky kind, like me.  And to prove it I’ve listed the top five gifts on my wishlist for this Father’s Day.  Hopefully you’ll find some inspiration for your gift to Dad here.  If I can save just one dad from getting another tie, my work here will be done.  So with that, let’s get started!

The iPad
(varies $499 – $729)
This is the priciest item on the list, but let’s face it, it’s the coolest gadget out there at the moment. If you’ve got a dad that travels for work consider the 3G version which gives him Internet access no matter where he is.  It’ll be a gift for the whole family too, with games, books and video, there is something for everyone on this thing.  Now that I think about it, you might need to pick up two.

SuperDad T-Shirt ($9)
We love to feel loved. And nothing says love like this SuperDad t-shirt in the original Superman font.  It makes us feel super-cool, and at $9 you can’t go wrong.  We don’t want to pat ourselves on the back, but it sure feels good to know that the people that we love think the world of us.  (Note: Tee Fury t-shirts are only available for a day at a time. So, if you miss out on the SuperDad shirt you can always give dad this awesome 1-Up shirt and pay homage to his childhood superheros, Mario and Luigi.)

Geek Dad Book
($8.80)
Let’s face it, we all spend too much time in front of the TV, computer or video game system.  Geek Dad is a book filled with fun ideas that dads can do with kids.  They’re fun and educational and create some great bonding moments between father and son or daughter.  Some of the activities include building the best slip ‘n slide ever and how to transform any room into a spaceship.  Good times!

MAKE Magazine Subscription
($34.95)
If you’ve got a dad that’s the handy type consider getting him a subscription to MAKE magazine.  Filled with tons of DIY (do-it-yourself) projects, this magazine will keep even the biggest tinkerer occupied year round.  And the projects are cool too, like building a cat toy that updates Twitter when the cat pounces.  It’s really the gift that gives year round.

National Wildlife Federation’s Be Out There Pledge
(FREE)
The NWF’s new Be Out There pledge is a pledge that families can take to spend more time outside with their kids.  Plus they have great activity suggestions for the outdoors and a free newsletter you can sign up for to receive tips and ideas throughout the year.  Take the pledge together and pair it with a season pass to your local parks and you’ll have a year’s worth of adventures awaiting you on any given weekend.

Bonus – Star Wars Cookie Cutter and Pancake Molds ($19.95)
Here’s a bonus idea that you can buy and use on Father’s Day.  Grab these cool Star Wars cookie and pancake molds and surprise Dad with breakfast in bed.  Nothing says love like Darth Vader and Yoda pancakes.  Plus they’ll make for cool cookies and pancakes for the rest of the Star Wars fans in your family year round.

So there you have it, 6 ideas for dads that go above and beyond the traditional (and tired) tie. I hope these give you some inspiration for this Father’s Day and make your SuperDad’s day.

2009 Holiday Guide: Gifts For Mom

December 17, 2009 by Erika
Filed under Featured, Shopping, Skincare

I sat next to a gentleman when I was on a plane on my way to Womma last month who was fascinated by my arsenal of beauty and fashion magazines.  He was the smart engineering-type, so lest he think I was the most vapid human being he had ever met (clearly I’m in the top 5, but certainly not number one), I offered him a little information about what I do for a living.  Then he asked for a suggestion on what he could get his wife for Christmas.  His exact words were “she likes little gift set thingies.”  Wow.  So I’m like, um, gift sets of what?  Socks?

Then he starts thumbing through a copy of Lucky (MY copy of Lucky, that is) and pointing out things she would like.  Finally I offered for him to take it home with him, and reminded him to use it wisely – he basically had a perfect list and guide of items right at his fingertips.  He also took my card, so on the off chance that his wife is reading this post, all I can say is I TRIED.

In case you haven’t picked up a copy of Lucky lately or you just have a wife or mother that is exceedingly difficult to shop for – here is a short list of a few ideas that will hopefully make your shopping experience a bit less painful.

Picture 86

momAgenda — I received my first momAgenda back in January and since then have discovered that I am unable to live without it.  It’s a one-stop source for everything I need to keep me organized – it has sections for my personal schedule, then I take advantage of some of the “Kids” column’s to keep my professional life organized as well (I only have one, so why waste all of that space?!).  Conference calls, doctor’s appointments, travel arrangements, playdates, and birthdays all have their place in my momAgenda.  The two ribbon book markers help me keep track of my current week, and my month at-a-glance, but you can use them however you want.  Even my favorite wines have a place in my momAgenda!  There is currently a sale going on site-wide at momAgenda with 15-40% off of everything in stock PLUS free shipping!

Picture 87

Soft Hugwear – Soft Hugwear is the stuff my soft, fluffy cloud dreams are made of.  They make blankets, eyemasks, travel pillows, and spa wraps, like the one above (which I own and LOVE).  This new, uber-posh line is available at WalMart, and I have got my sights set on the travel set!

Picture 88

Keurig Platinum Single Serve Brewing System – Let me just start my opinion of this with a WOW.  This has become the #1 item in my house that I just simply CANNOT live without.  I’ve recently become a coffee addict — which is tough in a house where no one else likes it.  I would find myself brewing a whole pot of coffee and only drinking a cup, so I started cutting it down, but it really is a good bit of effort to go through for just one cup of coffee!  The Keurig has totally changed that for me.  I keep the reservoir filled, grab the flavor of coffee or tea that I want, pick my size, and in one minute I have the perfect cup of coffee, and no more than that.  The difference is in the K cup – this little cup pre-filled with different options of coffee or tea – that you pop in the top of the brewer, then close the lid.  When you’re done, you just throw the whole cup away.  No mess at all.  Already have a type of coffee that you love?  You can create your own K Cups as well, so don’t worry!  I can also choose the size cup I’d like – which is perfect for early mornings when I’m grabbing my coffee on the go.

Picture 89

Philosophy Skincare – I debated adding this under my beauty guide, but I’ve got to say – a little pampering goes a long way for moms.  Any mom would be ecstatic to find this gift set under the tree – it includes everything she could possibly want to care for her skin – including Philosophy’s signature face wash, an exfoliating scrub, their signature moisturizer “Hope in a Jar” as well as the version for the sensitive eye area “Hope in a Tube”, as well as a micro delivery peel.  This kit is skincare heaven, and probably a splurge that mom would never get for herself.  The Miracle Worker Kit that you see here includes $156 worth of products for $86 bucks – plus FREE shipping from Sephora right now!

So there you have it, a few awesome last-minute picks for mom — stay tuned for some amazing giveaways, and check our the Technology section of the guide for some suggestions for the tech-loving people in your life as well as some of our newest giveaways!

2009 Holiday Guide: iH15 Color Changing iPod Dock {A Giveaway}

Filed under Entertainment, Giveaways, Shopping, Technology

If you haven’t already checked out my 2009 gift suggestions for the tech-savvy crowd, then you’re totally missing out.  Not only are there a lot of great gift suggestions over there, but you can read all about how I have this really cool iPod dock that plays really awesome sounding music, but all I get to listen to are the Imagination Movers.  Don’t get me wrong, I am very much an Imagination Movers fan, but there is a limit to the amount of times that I can hear “Where are you Puppy Dog” before I go a little nutso.  Oh, fine.  I already am a little nutso.

Picture 65

My friends, meet the iH15.  The sweetest, color-changing, bee-bopping iPod/iPhone dock that there ever was.  This would make a great gift for a teenager, especially, though mine looks kinda adorable in my kitchen.  The best part is while I’m rockin’ out to the Movers, my iPhone is working up a charge.  Sweet.

Wanna win one?  The folks at iHome have given me one to give away!

To enter, pop on over to the iHome website and peruse the rest of the awesome products they have there.  Then come back here and leave a comment on this post telling me which product BESIDES this one you love.  For bonus entries you may follow me on Twitter, Tweet about this giveaway (use the little button at the top of the page), subscribe to this site by email (box at the top right hand side of the page),  or write a 500 word essay on the French Revolution.  Ok, not the last one.  Just checking to see if you were paying attention.

2009 Holiday Guide: Mophie Juice Pack Air {A Giveaway}

Filed under Giveaways, Shopping, Technology

If you’ve checked out my 2009 gift suggestions for the tech-savvy crowd, then you’ve already read my long winded story about how, when there are a bunch of geeks in one place, my iPhone battery dies on me.  The Mophie Juice Pack Air makes my long days at conferences like Blog World Expo and TribeCon SO much easier because I never have to worry about my battery taking a leave of absence.

Picture 59So, yes, the MJPA (because it just gets WAY too tiring typing all of that out each time) pretty much rocks my world.  So does the company, because they loved that I loved my Mophie SO much that they offered to give one away to one of my awesome CSC readers.  Dude, this would make the coolest gift for the iPhone freak in your life.  Or, you know, just keep it for yourself.  You deserve it.

To enter, pop on over to Mophie’s website and peruse the rest of the awesome products they have there.  Then come back here and leave a comment on this post telling me which product BESIDES this one you love.  For bonus entries you may follow me on Twitter, Tweet about this giveaway (use the little button at the top of the page), subscribe to this site by email (box at the top right hand side of the page),  or post a video to YouTube of yourself doing 5 back flips in a row.  Ok, not the last one.  Just checking to see if you were paying attention.

In conjunction with the 2009 Holiday Guide, I have a few things to give away to you, my readers!  My new favorite iPhone App is LogMeIn, an app that lets you access any internet-connected computer from your iPhone or iPod touch.  Sa-weet! Here are a few screen shots of the app in action:

2009 Holiday Guide: Gifts for the Tech-Savvy

December 11, 2009 by Erika
Filed under Featured, Shopping, Technology

I wanted to kick off the 2009 Holiday Gift Guide with a few of my favorite gifts for the Geek Girl in all of us!  Of course, most of these gifts would work for either gender, so I’m probably not being entirely fair, since most the the men that I know would kill to have any of these gifts!  So, without further ado, here are my top picks for the Tech-Savvy folks on your list.

Picture 47

Livespeakr – A set of small, portable speakers for your iPhone and iPod touch, great for listening to your music anywhere you can imagine.  I use mine most frequently out in the backyard and in the kitchen.  Occasionally it plays some of my favorite tracks, but I find it mostly serves my daughter’s purposes and is usually playing a song by the Imagination Movers.  It has a USB rechargable battery that lasts anywhere from 14-16 hours and works in both portrait and landscape mode.  Sa-weet!

Picture 48Digital Foci: Pocket Album – A new twist on digital photo frames, this is a digital photo album that boasts a 2.8′ screen and can hold up to FOUR THOUSAND PHOTOS.  That’s right, you can tell your entire life story with this baby, especially if you make use of the folders function to organize your photos.  It’s small enough to slip in your purse and carry around with you, too – it even comes with it’s very own carrying case and viewing stand.

Picture 52

WikiReader — The WikiReader is a nerd’s dream gift (or nerdette, as the case may be).  I mean that in a totally endearing way, because I LOVE it.  Basically it puts 3 million topics at your fingertips – anytime, anywhere.  You pay a flat fee for the device, which includes all of the Wikipedia entries you could ever want – and the best part is that it does not need an internet connection to work.  It has three simple buttons for navigation, and the rest is controlled through a touch-screen interface.  You can even update the device yourself on a regular basis. (PS – it even has parental controls!  Yes, Veronica, you can give this to your High School student after all!)

Picture 54SmartSwipe — This site is called Chic Shopper Chick for a reason!  For all of you frequent online shoppers like myself, you’ll be eagerly embracing the SmartSwipe – which is a pesonal credit card reader, just like you use in a retail store.  Apart from feeling very high tech (because you will feel very James Bondesque when you use this thing) the SmartSwipe provides you with additional protection and privacy from online phishing.  Basically, it’s a smarter, more secure way to shop online.  This would also make a great gift for anyone in your family who REFUSES to shop online because they are scared the Russians are stealing their information (I’m looking at you Gram!).

Picture 56LogMeIn Ignition – Just yesterday a friend sent me a DM that said “can you email me the document I sent you yesterday?  I’m not home and I wante to show it to someone.”  Luckily that won’t happen to me anymore because I’ve started using LogMeIn – an application for the iPhone and iPod touch that makes the iPhone the ultimate productivity tool for the busy, on-the-go parent, business traveler or student. No matter where you are, you can have instant access to virtually any internet-connected computer via your iPhone or iPod Touch.  A great gift for anyone attached at the hip to their laptop!  (Love it?  Win a copy of LogMeIn!)

Mophie Juice Pack Air

Mophie Juice Pack Air - When I was at Blog World Expo, I had this teeny, tiny, minor little issue of my iPhone continuing to die.  All the time.  Like, no battery at all.  That’s what happens when you have a bunch of geeks in one place, right?  One night my friend slipped one of these little contraptions on my phone and pressed a little button on the back, and voilà!  Insta-battery.  Of course, I had to have one.  A purple one, at that.  This light little contraption functions as a cover for your phone, but also includes it’s own battery.  I plug it into my laptop at night, plug in my phone elsewhere, and the next morning I have the equavalient of two full batteries.  The best part about the Mophie is that you can flip a switch to tell your phone to use the Mophie battery first, so that you can then remove the cover and have a fully charged iPhone to last you the rest of the night.  (Like it?  Win a Mophie!)

Picture 63

iSkin Protouch – Germophobes, neatfreaks, and eye-squinters rejoice!  The iSkin Protouch keyboard covers are made of silicone and have embedded Microban® antimicrobial product protection, which provides continuous cleaning action, inhibiting the growth of damaging microbes, such as bacteria, that can cause stains, odors and product deterioration.  Oh, and did I mention that the letters are printed, nice and big, on the keyboard? Oh yeah, so big that even my mom could read them!  (I’m picking on all SORTS of people in this guide, aren’t I?)  Even better?  The iSkin Protouch softens the sounds of typing, so it would make my French friends very happy, because, as they once told me in college while we were studying in the library — “Americans do everything loudly.  You even type loudly.”  The iSkin Protouch comes in all kinds of patterns and options, even one that allows the keys of the MacBook Pro to light up at night and still be seen.  Squee!

Picture 65iHome iH15 Color Changing iPod Dock – This dock not only charges your iPod or iPhone, but it plays your music AND changes colors.  You can pick one color or you can let it rotate to all of the different ones.  An awesome gift for a teen, or the perfect item to keep on your desk.  My 2 year old thinks that it’s basically a dance party in a box – between the changing colors and the Disney songs!  It even has a subwoofer built in (I just LOVE that word, I’m such a dork) so the sound is actually really, really awesome for such a small little box.  (Love it?  Win a iH15 from iHome!)

* * *

So there ya have it.  The first part of the Holiday Gift Guide!  I have a ton of giveaways and more categories coming up ASAP, so be sure and subscribe to my site by email or via RSS!

Snug As A Bug: A Family Christmas Tradition {Giveaway!}

I’m a fashionista, and therefore I’m adamantly against couples who wear matching outfits, and twins over the age of 12 who do the same.  Heck, when I was in high school my friend B and I had such similar styles that there were many times that we showed up in the same outfit (which generally included Doc Martens – it was the 90s afterall!) and one of us would just turn around and go home to change.

family_santaselves.phpHowever, I do feel there is ONE occasion when it is ok to match, and think maybe it’s even a little cute.  Of course, I’m talking about Christmas morning.  I can’t help it!  Families who wear matching pajamas to bed on Christmas Eve wake up to a visit from Santa PLUS adorable pictures because they all look so sweet and cookie cutterish?  Totally irresistible.

I’m so excited to say that my most popular giveaway from the Holiday Season is back for 2009!  Last year I came across this awesome website called Snug As A Bug that sells matching Christmas Pajamas for the entire family – and I fell in love with their adorable prints and patterns.    Their pajamas come in sizes from Newborn to XXL, and they even make bandannas for cats and dogs!

flnkids_5santaselvesSeriously, what could be more fun than the whole family around the tree wearing matching PJs? If this isn’t already a tradition in your house (as it has been with my best friend’s family for as long as I can remember) it’s time to consider starting a great tradition of your own with matching Christmas pajamas for everyone-even your pets.

My favorite print this year is called Santa’s Elves, featuring some jolly little elves dancing on a blue background.  It’s totally bringing out my inner child-I want to throw on an old Christmas special, grab a gingerbread man from the tin, and write a list for Santa half a mile long!

Win it! Once again, Snug As A Bug has graciously offered to outfit the family of one lucky Chic Shopper Chick reader in their very own set of Christmas pajamas!  The winner will receive matching pajamas in a pattern of their choice for two adults and two kids.  To enter, just follow the three little steps below!

Monday Lust

No, no, no, I’m not lusting after Monday, but I did spend a good portion of my evening on Saturday falling in love with some of these amazing items.  My style is decidedly girly-chic with a dash of rock and roll and Audrey Hepburn mixed in.  No matter what your style is, I think you might find a piece here to lust after as well.  At the very least, it will lessen any case of the Mondays that you might have.  Enjoy!
