Spring Cleaning Your Closet with Tide and Tim Gunn {Giveaway CLOSED}

April 4, 2011 by
Filed under Fashion & Style, Featured, Giveaways

A few weeks ago, Tide approached me with what I thought was a very cool idea – share my spring cleaning resolution for my closet and my wardrobe with my readers – and have the potential to win a trip to NYC with one of my readers for a Spring Wardrobe makeover.

Oh, and did I mention that the wardrobe makeover would be with Tim Gunn?

You see, Tide understands the importance of every woman’s individual style, and wants to help you to not only set but achieve those style resolutions during this hectic “spring cleaning” season.

So, sweet readers, I made you a (decently funny) video to share my personal resolution for my spring wardrobe, and exactly why I needed (desperately) to clean out my closet.  Think awful dresses with ruffles, a plaid shirt that should have never been in my closet in the first place, and too much athletic gear – so much that I may end up tempted to wear it outside of the gym – which is my number one no-no!

My resolution this Spring is to Fight the Frump – I want to get rid of everything in my closet that doesn’t make me feel fabulous when I put it on.  This way, if I stock my closet with a bunch of very streamlined choices, then I never have to worry about being the frumpy girl in the room because I’ll always look pulled together.

Thanks, Tide, for the motivation to set a spring resolution to clean out my wardrobe, and make it a much more cohesive place!

So, what is YOUR spring wardrobe resolution?  If you share your resolution with me in the comments, you will be entered to win a trip to NYC for your very own spring wardrobe makeover with Tim Gunn, courtesy of Tide!

Yes. You read that right.

So leave your resolution in the comments, and you could be schmoozing and discussing cuts, lines, and color with Tim Gunn in NYC before you know it!  Good luck!

Disclosure:  This post is sponsored by Tide.  All opinions are, always have been, and always will be my own – but you knew that already, didn’t you? ;)

Bio Ionic: PowerLight Pro-Dryer {Giveaway Closed}

May 23, 2010 by
Filed under Beauty, Giveaways

Thanks for reading Chic Shopper Chick!  This giveaway is over, and a winner has been chosen by random.org.  Thanks!

About 2 years ago, I discovered blow dryers.  I mean, I suppose that I had always known about them but they were just these annoying things that made my hair all frizzy – sort of like Tina Turner after spending a summer day in Louisiana kinda frizzy.  Not. Pretty.

Two years ago my world changed.  My stylist, Meggan, always made my hair look PERFECT using just a round brush and blowdryer.  I attributed it to the fancy wash, the fresh cut, and the loads of product that she put in my hair.  One day, I bemoaned my fate of frizzyness and my constant need of a flat iron and she looked at me as if I had suddenly sprouted antenna from my shampoo commercial perfect hair.

“You can do this at home” she said to me.  She spoke slowly, as if dealing with a small child who had, until that point, only ever spoken French. “It’s all about the blowdryer.”

I smiled politely, inwardly rolling my eyes, and cringed knowing that a sales pitch was likely to follow.  It didn’t.  What followed, however, was the hair-ducation of Erika Lehmann.  Meggan told me about the wattage, the detachable nozzles, the importance of a “cool” shot button, the variable speeds, and challenged me to try it at home.

Can I just say that I HATE admitting when I’m wrong?  Really, it does not help my ego.

Meggan took me from mega-frizz, to mega-awesome in about a week.  She was correct, the right blowdryer does make all of the difference.  So, since you already know I’m a fan of the Bio Ionic One Pass, I thought I would introduce you to the Bio Ionic PowerLight Pro-Dryer – the blowdryer that will make your stylist smile with approval.

Check out some of the features of the PowerLight Pro-Dryer:

It has all of the features that Meggan recommended to me, like high wattage (1875W!), a cool shot button, variable speeds and heat settings, and the nozzle that allows you to control the air on a concentrated area.  Actually, the Pro-Dryer has 2 removable nozzles!  Not to mention, it’s ultra light, super fast (important when you have TONS of hair like me!), and conditioning.

Thanks to Bio Ionic, I have a Bio Ionic PowerLight Pro-Dryer to give away to one of my readers!

1.  Become a Fan of Bio Ionic on Facebook.  They are giving away tons of prizes each week – so if you don’t win here, you may win there!

2.  Leave a comment here telling me that you became a fan and also sharing with me one of your styling tips or your favorite celeb hairstyle.

That’s it!  For an extra entry, you can follow Bio Ionic on Twitter, subscribe to my YouTube Channel, or tweet this contest out to your followers (click the button at the top!). If you do, leave a comment here letting me know.  However, to qualify you must do the first two as well.

That’s it!  This contest will run through June 4th, 2010 at 11:59pm CST.  You must be a US resident to enter.  After the close of the contest, a winner will be chosen at random and posted here.  The winner has 72 hours to respond.

If you haven’t already checked out my 2009 gift suggestions for the tech-savvy crowd, then you’re totally missing out.  Not only are there a lot of great gift suggestions over there, but you can read all about how I have this really cool iPod dock that plays really awesome sounding music, but all I get to listen to are the Imagination Movers.  Don’t get me wrong, I am very much an Imagination Movers fan, but there is a limit to the amount of times that I can hear “Where are you Puppy Dog” before I go a little nutso.  Oh, fine.  I already am a little nutso.

Picture 65

My friends, meet the iH15.  The sweetest, color-changing, bee-bopping iPod/iPhone dock that there ever was.  This would make a great gift for a teenager, especially, though mine looks kinda adorable in my kitchen.  The best part is while I’m rockin’ out to the Movers, my iPhone is working up a charge.  Sweet.

Wanna win one?  The folks at iHome have given me one to give away!

Snug As A Bug: A Family Christmas Tradition {Giveaway!}

November 10, 2009 by
Filed under Featured, Giveaways, Shopping

I’m a fashionista, and therefore I’m adamantly against couples who wear matching outfits, and twins over the age of 12 who do the same.  Heck, when I was in high school my friend B and I had such similar styles that there were many times that we showed up in the same outfit (which generally included Doc Martens – it was the 90s afterall!) and one of us would just turn around and go home to change.

family_santaselves.phpHowever, I do feel there is ONE occasion when it is ok to match, and think maybe it’s even a little cute.  Of course, I’m talking about Christmas morning.  I can’t help it!  Families who wear matching pajamas to bed on Christmas Eve wake up to a visit from Santa PLUS adorable pictures because they all look so sweet and cookie cutterish?  Totally irresistible.

I’m so excited to say that my most popular giveaway from the Holiday Season is back for 2009!  Last year I came across this awesome website called Snug As A Bug that sells matching Christmas Pajamas for the entire family – and I fell in love with their adorable prints and patterns.    Their pajamas come in sizes from Newborn to XXL, and they even make bandannas for cats and dogs!

flnkids_5santaselvesSeriously, what could be more fun than the whole family around the tree wearing matching PJs? If this isn’t already a tradition in your house (as it has been with my best friend’s family for as long as I can remember) it’s time to consider starting a great tradition of your own with matching Christmas pajamas for everyone-even your pets.

My favorite print this year is called Santa’s Elves, featuring some jolly little elves dancing on a blue background.  It’s totally bringing out my inner child-I want to throw on an old Christmas special, grab a gingerbread man from the tin, and write a list for Santa half a mile long!

Win it! Once again, Snug As A Bug has graciously offered to outfit the family of one lucky Chic Shopper Chick reader in their very own set of Christmas pajamas!  The winner will receive matching pajamas in a pattern of their choice for two adults and two kids.  To enter, just follow the three little steps below!

  • Head over to Snug As A Bug and pick out your favorite Christmas Pajama pattern.  Then come back here and leave a comment on this post telling me which one is your favorite!  (Initial Entry)
  • Earn Extra Credit!  You may do these for additional entries.
            • Blog about this giveaway and link back here and to Snug As A Bug.  Leave a comment here with the link. (2 entries)
            • Tweet this giveaway using the little button at the top of the page. (1 entry)
            • Subscribe to CSC updates via email.  I will verify.  Leave a comment to let me know.  (1 entry)
            • Leave a comment on any other posts on CSC between now and December 1st.  Each additional comment will get you an extra entry.  I can track you via your IP address, no need to leave additional comments here.

That’s it!  Good luck! Oh, and the official rules and legal jargon are below.

US and Canadian entries only, winner will be chosen via random.org at the end of the contest. Winners are posted here and contacted directly, please leave a valid email address or blog address if you’d like to be contacted should you win. Winner has 24 hours to claim their prize. This contests ends at 11:59 pm CST on December 1st, 2009.

Dress To Impress With Talbots ($250 Gift Card Giveaway!)

September 21, 2009 by
Filed under Fashion & Style, Featured, Giveaways, Shoes

Red Chair Confessions has been creating quite a bit of buzz in the blogosphere with their fun videos that piqued the curiosity of almost everyone who watched them, including me!  I had no idea who was behind the fun videos that were clearly taking the web by storm, and I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it was Talbots!

Apart from the fact that I once had a $300 blue jean emergency on the emergency credit card my parents gave me in college (look, NOT buying them would have been like losing money – they were on SALE!) I do have a different confession to make – and it’s this:

I thought only teachers and moms shopped at Talbots.  Oh, wait.  I am both a teacher and a mom.  Hmm.

In all seriousness, I never really gave the place a chance!  There is a Talbots a mere half of a mile from my house, and I never bothered to step foot inside of it.  Which, really, is crazy, considering how much I adore shopping.  And the teacher/mom thing aside – honestly I just never really thought about trying Talbots when I was looking for new clothing.

But, um, wow, I was so wrong!  Last week I ran into Talbots, shaking the rain from my hair and turning around to close my umbrella before I turned around and saw them. It was love at first sight.  I’m talking about the most exquisite pair of brown leather riding boots, with perfect gold buckle accents on each side.  Clutching my $250 gift card, I hurried forward and asked the salesgirl for a size 9.5, praying they would fit.  Naturally, they didn’t, but the size 9 did! Sweet victory!

Elated with the discovery of my gorgeous new best friends, I continued browsing the store, wishing that I had a good reason to buy a new wool coat. (I live in Louisiana, sweatshirts and light jackets are about all we need, sadly.)  I moved on to the sale section, and snagged a nice black and white summer dress (which I  wore today!) and a couple of sleeveless tops to carry me through the fall season.

I also loved the pink sheath dress and pencil skirt, I wish I could have taken them both home!  Pinks and purples are great fall colors, and I just think both of these items would go a long way towards updating a basic wardrobe with a young, chic look. I loved the tailored look of the clothing, but that it was still young and even a bit edgy.  I fell in love with some of the bold colored items, including a mustard-colored jacket, and was even tempted to bring home some leopard-print shoes.  Overall, I was very impressed with the selection, and I think if you haven’t been to Talbots, or haven’t been in a while, then it’s time to check it out!

So, want a fall wardrobe makeover for yourself?  Talbots is giving away one lucky Chic Shopper Chick reader a $250 gift card to shop online or in one of their stores!  So, how do you win?  Well, you can go check out the contest rules but it boils down to this:  Click on over to Talbots.com and them come back here to let me know what your favorite items are!!  You can also enter by tweeting the URL to this post, and including the hashtag #redchairconfessions so that we can find it!

This contest ends on September 28th, at 11:59 pm CST.

    How’s Your Bedtime? {Guest Post + Giveaway CLOSED}

    April 4, 2009 by
    Filed under Giveaways, Shopping

    This guest post is from Rachel Lane who is the Founder and CEO of Barcelona Bath and Body.  She is one of the sweetest people ever, and a Twitter friend of mine who offered to do a guest post for me while I was out of town.  Not only that, but she is offering a giveaway as well.  Check it out below, and be sure to leave her a comment to thank her!

    There are many things in life we have no control of.  But we can exercise control over our own personal environments.  That’s the reason I’m so passionate about helping people setBarcelona Bath and Body the mood for their lives through home fragrance.

    Have you ever thought “I could have handled xyz better if I’d been in a better mood to begin with”?  When I developed our 5 fragrances, I designed them to create a mood of balance.  Each has calming and energizing properties, so you take from them what you need at the time.  This concept is very effective in a group dynamic like families, offices or spas where one person may feel exhausted and need a pick me up and another may be keyed up and need to relax.

    One of my favorite customers sets the mood for a successful bedtime with her two young sons every night.  She has established a bedtime ritual with them that they enjoy and have come to rely on.  As she’s readying them for bath time, she sprays Room Refresh® in Vanilla Lavender as she walks through the nursery, jack and jill bath and older son’s bedroom.  This is their cue that it’s time to start winding down for the night.  It’s become such a tradition that her 5-year old gives instructions to the baby sitter on exactly how mommy does it!  Mom says it’s made bedtime more peaceful, tranquil and enjoyable for all.

    Scent is arguably the most powerful of our five senses because aromas are processed by the part of the brain responsible for memory and emotions.  The average person has 10,000 “scent memories” stored in the brain—many of which transport you back to a specific time and place.  It’s easy to imagine that these boys will always associate Vanilla Lavender with security, serenity and relaxation.

    In case you’re wondering, it works for adults too!  Received this unsolicited email from another customer: “It occurred to me that the reason I have been sleeping soundly and waking refreshed each morning, has less to do with my state of mind and everything to do with your scented room spray. Each week when I change my linens, I spray an even coat of Room Refresh® in Vanilla Lavender over my mattress cover. The fragrance stays all week and I drift into a sound sleep every single night. IBarcelona Bath and Body am not telling you this simply out of flattery for your ingenious capabilities, but because I do believe your scents have immense calming powers. This holiday season I must purchase sets of room spray, soaps and candles for each of my friends. I cannot think of a more appropriate gift to give.”

    I’d love to help you set the mood for your life!

    Win It! Rachel has graciously offered to give away one bottle of Room Refresh® in the fragrance of the winner’s choice.  To enter, visit Barcelona Bath and Body and tell me the name of the fragrance that you would choose if you won (official names only, please!).  After your initial comment, every other (pertinent) comment left on this site on other posts from now through April 12th will count as an extra entry each.  You don’t need to come back to this post and tell me you commented on another post, I can stalk track you via your email/IP address.   As usual, extra entries are also available for stumbling Chic Shopper Chick (leave your stumble name), subscribing to my site, listening to the Feel Good Fashion radio show on Friday nights at 9pm EST/8pm CST, following me on Twitter, and blogging about this giveaway with a link back here.  That’s it, so good luck!

    US entries only, winner will be chosen via random.org at the end of the contest. Winners are posted here, please leave a valid email address or blog address if you’d like to be contacted should you win. Winner has 72 hours to claim their prize. This contest ends at 11:59 pm CST on April 12th, 2009.
