Beach Bum

26 Comments 06 February 2009

Sigh. I don’t know what it is — maybe that we are having an unusual cold snap here in southern Louisiana — but today I am longing for sun, springtime, warm weather, and sun-kissed skin. All I can think about is laying on a pristine white sand beach, awesome music playing on my ipod, and lazily glancing up at the blue-green water every now and then as the waves break onto the shore. Naturally, I’d be just as content laying poolside in a cushy lounge chair at a swanky hotel or resort while being waited on hand and foot. So, for those reasons I started looking at bathing suits today, which helped to cure my springtime fever but also served to remind me that I need to do some sit ups.

So yes, I know it’s early, but here is my 2009 Spring/Summer swimsuit preview. Many of these suits won’t ship until mid-March, though you can pre-order most of them.

Juicy Couture Swimsuit

Juicy Couture Beach Ruffle Bikini

I love this uber sexy and feminine suit by Juicy Couture because it is modern and fun but still has decent coverage. The ruffled bottom will help to hide problem areas and the top leaves just enough to the imagination. Definitely one of my favorites.

Ralph Lauren Blue Label Swimwear

Ralph Lauren Blue Label “Big Pony” Bikini

I love the simple and classic look of Ralph Lauren Swimwear. This is an updated take on the triangle-top bikini that can give you a bit more (or less, if you want!) coverage by adjusting the top. I love side-tie bikinis just because they can adjust to the shape of the woman wearing them and still look fantastic. The grommets in the bottom for the ties add an awesome detail that really polishes this look for me.

Juicy Couture Tankini

Juicy Couture Smocked Tankini

I love the French Provencial look of this swimsuit. The smocked top makes it flattering on any sized bustline and the empire waistline has a gorgeous tie detailing that helps to make the transition from fitted top to flowy tankini. This is a great suit to hide any tummy imperfections and show off great shoulders and arms.

Shapefx Swimsuit

Shape fx Triangle Bikini

I love this one because it has lots of character, it actually might be my favorite of them all. I think that the criss-cross underneath the top gives it a really fun and different feel and the ruched bottom will be great for hiding any trouble spots. Naturally I’m drawn to the deep pink color, and I think this might be a really good choice for me.

Eyelet Cover-Up

La Blanca by Rod Beattie Eyelet Cover-Up

Oh, and I know this isn’t a swimsuit but I just loved it so much that I couldn’t resist! What a great cover-up – perfect for walking to/from the beach/pool in style. Because really, what fun is a fabulous swimsuit if you throw on an old t-shirt and pair of sweatpants over it?

So tell me, what do you think? Which ones do you like – do you have tips/advice for me? Do you buy a new swimsuit each year? What style or styles do you prefer?

Love the Juicy Couture Beach Ruffle Bikini but it only I was 23 again.

  2. Lauren says:

Love the smock!! How adorable! I’m notorious for having to run in the store on the way to/from the pool. The top would be very conductive to just throwing on a pair of shorts and running inside.
I wish that I had the bod for the Ralph Lauren or the Ruffle Bikini!

  3. Amy L says:

I love the shapefx one – specially the top. I long for the beach too and I’m hoping we transfer to the base in penscecola, not my ideal beach location but its the beach! And if we transfer to CA, it sooooooo expensive. I love being near the water. Not that I mind the desert where we’re at – to much.

If I had the body of any of these girls, I would be more than thrilled to wear any one of these bathing suits! But, since I don’t, I’ll be wearing my “mommy” bathing suit. I do love the Juicy Couture Beach Ruffle Bikini! I’d be better off with the cover up shown here – it’s very cute!
    Thanks!

My fav is the Shape fx Triangle Bikini

  6. Heather H says:

I love the ruffle bikini bottoms – too cute. But let’s be honest, I just had a baby a few months ago, so I probably won’t be showing my belly this summer. The smocked tankini would be a great option for me! Love it!

I don’t think I’d ever be bold enough to wear the triangle bikini, but I can respect a girl who is – go for it!

  7. Beth G. says:

Thanks for the post..just reminds me of the extra 5lbs I have to loose. I’m obsessing about the Juicy Couture Smocked Tankini swimsuit and must have it!

  8. Heather says:

I love, love, love the smocked tankini!! I don’t like showing my stomach, but I also don’t like one pieces. That suit would be perfect!

  9. Aura says:

The RL bikini is really sexy but I like the Juicy tankini best, it looks like the most flattering for unperfect bodies. I rarely even get to a pool in the summer so I stick with the one swimsuit I own.

  10. allie says:

i rarely buy a new bathing suit but i actually need one NOW because I started doing physical therapy in a pool. i think i need one with more coverage than any of these. i care a lot less about fashion than what’s flattering on my body.

  11. Jill W. says:

I haven’t bought a swimsuit in years. I don’t do swimsuits in public much anymore…I’m not really big, I’m just not comfortable in them. I do love that tankini, though! And that cover up is cute…good luck with your decision, I’m not much help, hee hee! :)

  12. Naomi says:

Wow, the Juicy ones are cute!

  13. Estela S says:

There is something about the understated sexiness of the RL suit that makes me want it terribly!! I’m a San Diego girl living in Boston. I would GLADLY trade the snow here for the year-round sunshine of SoCal!

  14. Tina says:

I love the smocked tankini. However, as much as I’m looking forward to warm weather, I’m not so sure I’m ready to face the idea of swimsuit shopping yet. Blech!

  15. Elisa says:

I love the Ralph Lauren one! And the coverup, of course :-) Nice picks.

  16. Meg T says:

I think the Shape fx is really fun and the color is great but I’d probably end up with the classic Ralph Lauren.

  17. Lisa Vitovich says:

    They all are great!!

  18. angela says:

I like the tankinis for my girls

  19. Melissa says:

I definitely DON’T buy a new suit every year…once I find something that is actually flattering, I stick with it! I do like the Juicy Couture Smocked Tankini.

  20. kristin says:

We’re HUGE with Ralph Lauren in this family but that suit isn’t so cute. haha! :)

    I love the smock! adorable!

  21. i love this one it is so pretty and covers just enough for those of us whom have had babiesJuicy Couture Swimsuit

  22. Danielle says:

I love the juicy ruffle bikini, but sadly I too will be shopping for a bit more coverage unless I get my butt in gear & work off these baby pounds. But more than likely will be shopping for a one piece:)

  23. Audrey says:

I love the shape fx. It’s such a cute and unique look. Sadly, I’m stuck shopping for a one-piece this year. I don’t think anyone needs to be exposed to my stretch marks. :)

  24. Mrs. Cox says:

I think I like the ruffle bikini best…

  25. Jingle says:

I’m a classic bikini girl, myself. Actually, that Big Pony one is awesome! I would love that one! They are comfortable and easy to wear. The white cover up is gorgeous! My only advice is to wear what you feel great in!
