Calling All Digital Moms! {Photobook Giveaway!}

112 Comments 10 June 2009

MultiplyI’ve been taking pictures and video like a crazy woman since Little AG was born – I’m actually borderline obsessive with the “document every moment” stuff. When she was a couple of months old, I attempted to figure out the best way to organize and share all of these little tidbits of multimedia with our families – some of whom lived hundreds of miles away. I eventually settled on creating a website for her, which was fine until I used up all of my allotted space. Sheesh. You’d be surprised at how much room a few pictures and a couple of videos takes up! So I went back to the old way of doing things – photos to Walgreens, videos on YouTube, etc. Sure, I was still able to share it all, but not in the neat little package I had imagined.

Recently I discovered Multiply which is a social networking site that also includes a beginning to end media solution, where moms (and dads!) can quickly and easily store, share and discuss their media, as well as order a full spectrum of print products, with just a few clicks. It serves as an online backup and permanent storage of your original resolution files, which is extremely helpful if your computer ever crashes. For me, that is a scary and all-too-real possibility that became reality for me last summer – my computer crashed and there was a possibility that all of the photos from the first year and a half of Little AG’s life were lost. Thankfully I was able to recover them, but I learned my lesson in the meantime!

The social networking aspect of the Multiply allows family members to join and connect with you as well, so they can see your most recent videos, photos, etc. Even better, if I decide to create and order something on Multiply, my family members can order it too, or they can actually use the photos and other media that I upload to make their own products. So, if I create a photo book from Little AG’s birthday party, my family members can order a duplicate copy of the one I created, or they can use Multiply’s editor to include the photos they would most like to have in their book. You can also add notes to your profile, keep up with your calendar, and import your blog and photo feeds from various services, so you truly can have everything in one place.

  34. barefootmeg says:

    I’ve been using Multiply for 4 1/2 years now. It’s great because I can post more generic things (like recipes or thoughts on websites i’ve come across) publicly, but most of my pictures and videos of the kids are visible only to the people i trust enough to add as contacts.

    I’ve ordered several photo books, calendars and cards and love them all. And the Autouploader makes it SO EASY to get the pics to the web. Then all I have to do is add titles and post them. And for only $20/year I’ve done the premium thing so that all my pics are backed up. (So I don’t have to worry about losing them if my hard drive and external drive fail.)

    I also like that I can personalize my site and make it feel like home.

    And there are some great groups you can join as well. I was in a group for new moms for awhile, but I’m kinda past that stage now. Instead I switched over to the moms of teens group. lol! There’s a vegetarians group, knitting and craft groups, environmental groups, etc.

    And the staff is always helpful when I have a problem. And there’s a user support group to get help from other users.

    I just joined Multiply! If you need to find me, I used the same email address as I use here, on your site. Plus, I wrote a short blog to get things started. Thanks for sharing the site w/us & for this great giveaway!

  87. Tanya M. Cormier says:

    Very cool. Their site mentioned that it gave you your own web address, which makes it more easily accessible to family & friends. I just recently lost ALL picture & videos of my only son’s 1st whole years of life(plus, my daughters 3rd year, as well). Needless to say, I’m traumatized! Finding the time (& extra $) to upload everything & having it backed up someplace where my bad luck can’t influence it sounds like it just might work!

  88. Vicky H. says:

    I’ve been on Multiply for almost three years now. I currently just use it to share YouTube videos with my friends and make an occasional post. I also like to use it for reviewing things like restaurants and movies, and it’s cool that they allow people who comment to rate it on your review so you can compare.

  89. Linda says:

    Well, my website url had an error in it above so I’ll resend in case anyone wants to follow it to Multiply.

  90. Linda says:

    I’ve been at Multiply for several years because the privacy settings are by far the best you will find anywhere online. What you see on my Multiply is only a small portion of what I’ve posted since each post has a variety of privacy permissions. And the photo cards I’ve designed myself were of such high quality, yet so well priced, that I won’t buy anywhere else. People still have my Christmas cards on their Fridge doors!
