Back To School With New Products From Crayola

Is it just me or is the idea of going back to school super exciting? I remember shopping for school supplies with my mom and begging for the newest and coolest products. Back then it was a barrage of Lisa Franck folders and pencils, spiral bound 1 subject notebooks, and of course, crayons and colored pencils. Even when I was a high school student I needed colored pencils. We had a workbook in my anatomy class that was huge (not your typical coloring book) and it required that all of these anatomical structures were colored by number. So, even as a senior in high school I found myself in search of the biggest pack of colored pencils that Crayola had to offer.

But it was Crayola, and only Crayola in my house. Honestly, there is no other way.

And there still isn’t.

This year, Walmart and Crayola teamed up and the Walmart Moms a bunch of the newest and coolest product offerings from Crayola. My handsome little model Banks, above, watched me open the box and then proceeded to shriek with excitement. At 6 years old, seeing a box full of Crayola art supplies has that effect on you.

Wild Notes - color changing fun from Crayola

Out of everything, our favorite item was the new Wild Notes products. You can get them from Walmart in a 1 subject spiral bound notebook, a package of sticky notes, or a spiral bound notecard. They come with a special pen and when you write on the paper, the ink changes colors constantly – like a rainbow. It looks really cool. I would have used these notebooks through college if they had been available back then. My only complaint is that it only comes with one pen. Raise your hand if you think that after 2 or 3 uses, you’ll never see that pen again – no matter how great your efforts. Exactly.

I also really loved the Crayola Dry Erase crayons – what a cool concept. Our son loves anything black, so of course he thought it was super cool to be able to draw on the black side of the board. Even I couldn’t resist getting in on the action a little bit once he was done. I have to admit, it’s super cool (and the crayons still have that really great smell – is that weird? Ok, that’s weird.)

The dry erase crayons even come with their own cloth to erase the board with. It works really well – even for little hands. I was impressed – I thought for sure the crayon would be really hard to get off.

I really like the dry erase board because it allows our two Kindergarteners to imitate what they see in school with the white board. They love practicing their letters and numbers – so this is perfect for them to do that. It’s also a great learning tool – I can draw a letter in one color and have them try and perfect it using another. The uses for this are really endless.
