The past month has been such a whirlwind for our family – I can hardly believe it is December! However, our two kids are definitely excited and gearing up for Christmas – they are counting down the days until Santa arrives! Naturally, that makes it the perfect time of year to start thinking about the best gifts and top toys of 2014 for the kids in your life!
This year, for the second year in a row, Walmart gathered kids ranging in age from 18 months to 12 years, and let them be the experts of the coolest toys of the season. All day long, the kids played with the hottest new toys from Hasbro, Mattel, Spin Master, Zing and more. At the end of the day, they were asked to give their opinions and seal of approval to the chosen few, and from that Walmart has published their Top 20 Toys Chosen By Kids list again this year!
A handful of those top 20 toys are toys that are specifically designed to encourage imaginative play and creativity, like the Spin Master Sew Cool Sewing Machine.
The Sew Cool Machine is a revolutionary threadless device that’s perfect for a first-time sewing experience. This toy has everything your kids need to startsewing right away and allows them to create nine projects from start to finish. This threadless sewing machine includes patterns and pre-cut shapes for purses, pouches, characters and more. Encouraging imagination and hand-eyecoordination, young sewers will love it because they can do it by themselves.
Walmart sent AG her very own Sew Cool Machine to test out, and as you can see she was really into it. She was so excited at the prospect of being able to sew things on her own, and even before she got her hands on the 9 projects that come with the machine, she was dreaming up new designs for doll clothes, pillows, and dresses for herself. The machine itself doesn’t use thread, though it does use needles, to connect the material together. Instead it is more like a felting machine, and the needle moves in and out connecting the threads of the two materials together so that they will stick together, but not so much so that you can’t pull the project apart and realign, adjust, redo, etc. if needed.
The machine itself is very safe because there are safety measures in place to protect little fingers from the needles – they are safely enclosed. The projects are really fun, and it only took us about 10 minutes (plus another 10 as we searched for 4 AA batteries) to get set up and working – which is impressive considering that I had my 7 year old breathing down my neck as I read the instructions (“Now can I do it? Is it ready? Can I try? I don’t need the directions, I think I know how it works already. I want to make the owl!“)
You can buy the Sew Cool Machine on Rollback right now at Walmart for 31.99. It’s a great gift, and a great starter machine to gauge your child’s interest in sewing, and of course Walmart’s every day low prices make it an affordable option as well!
Don’t forget that Walmart has lots of ways to help you optimize your budget this holiday season, including Walmart Layaway program which is available in more than 4,000 stores nationwide, and my personal favorite – Walmart Savings Catcher. If you haven’t checked out Walmart Savings Catcher yet then now is the time to try it. If Savings Catcher finds an advertised price that is lower than what you paid for the same exact item, Walmart will give you a eGift Card for the difference. Honestly, Walmart makes it crazy easy to save both time and money this holiday season – it’s a win-win!
Oh, and be sure to check back next week – we are going to be reviewing a new toy from each category of the Top Toys Chosen by Kids each week for the next 4 weeks!
